Canyon Creek Elementary, specifically. Closed for the rest of the week.

This is about a mile from my house. We're in Plano ISD, though. :wow:

but still no reports of flu south of San Antonio.

2. Yikes! That's close for me, too.
Closer to my work than my house, but still.

Confirmed swine flu cases in Texas jump to 16

AUSTIN, Texas — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 16 cases of swine flu in Texas, and Gov. Rick Perry has issued a disaster declaration for the entire state.

In a statement, Perry said "Texans need to know there is no cause for panic."

How about that? Perry agrees with President Obama - "no cause for panic".

Related note, we unfortunately have the first victim to die in Texas. A two year old who came from Mexico City. My condolences to his family. Children under 5 are very susceptible to flu viruses.

CDC says Texas swine flu death is first in U.S.
The first reported death in the United States from the swine flu outbreak was that of a 23-month-old Mexico City boy who fell ill in Brownsville and was transported for treatment at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, where he died Monday, officials said.

Also, officials suspended all high school athletic and academic competition statewide until at least May 11 because of the spreading flu, which has prompted five districts to cancel classes entirely, including three in suburban San Antonio.

Dr. David Persse, director of Houston's emergency medical services, said the acutely ill child was admitted to a Brownsville hospital on April 13 and immediately was rushed by medical transport to Houston.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the boy already had "several underlying health problems" before he flew to Matamoros on April 4 and crossed into Brownsville to visit relatives.

5. We were talking about the Swine Flu in my class this morning at school.
My professor made note that our governor had been getting heat for his comments about secession, that the federal government was mingling too much in state government and then turned around as is asking the federal government for help. LOL! It was an amusing few minutes in class this morning. And even at school, everyone's just saying "wash your hands, don't cough on people, just do what you're supposed to be doing anyways and if you feel sick, go to the doctor and DON'T COME TO CLASS!"

BTW, my university is over in Cedar Hill.

6. Ohhhh, I bet I know the university you go to, tammywammy...
me and my daughter attended that same university :) Yes, wash your hands (OFTEN), and don't forget to take your multi-vitamins. Nature's Way "ALIVE" is a great brand, imho. Also, don't forget your vitamin c.

7. School Closings
I live in Comal County. There are at least 3 reported cases of swine flu here. Both the New Braunfels and Comal schools are closed until May 11.
