'Dancing With the Stars' cast includes Tom DeLay

NEW YORK — Former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay will join 15 celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and sports in kicking up their heels on the new season of "Dancing With the Stars.

Other hopefuls include entertainer Donny Osmond; singers Mya, Macy Gray and Aaron Carter; actors Melissa Joan Hart, Debi Mazar and Ashley Hamilton (son of George); models Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland; reality stars Kelly Osbourne and Mark Dacascos ("the Chairman" on Food Network's "Iron Chef America"); mixed martial artist Chuck Liddell; professional snowboarder Louie Vito; Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin; former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin and the 62-year-old former congressman from Texas.

Really? Are they sinking that low? What makes him a "celebrity"? I don't watch this show but the news of this make me want to

:puke:

2. Who watches this shit?
Why would anybody want to watch a crooked former congressman dance? This is a symptom of some kind of decadence or boredom. I don't regret leaving the USA.

3. I stopped watching this show a long time ago, and Delay definitely...
will NOT peak my interests into watching this show again. I see too many Repugnants on my screen as it is, no need to punish myself further.

4. Lone Star Project newsletter on Delay's greatest hits - Dancing Behind Bars

Some may be surprised that Tom DeLay will be doing the two-step this season on Dancing with the Stars. Not us. DeLay has demonstrated quite a bit of fancy footwork over the years avoiding jail time. Here are some of the DeLay’s political moves that Dancing With the Stars audiences may not be familiar with:

  • Cha Cha Cha Ching – DeLay laundered at least $190,000 in corporate funds through the Republican National Committee to spend on Texas Republican House cronies like State Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-138). (Source: Austin American-Statesman, September 1, 2008)

  • Tango and Cash – DeLay paid his wife Christine and daughter Dani Ferro $350,000 from his various campaign accounts. (Source: The Houston Chronicle, May 10, 2007)

  • Hammer Hustle – DeLay convinced imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff to pay for a golf trip to Europe. (Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram, April 26, 2007)

  • Backroom Jitterbug – DeLay convened Energy Lobbyists to help write energy legislation that "would allow the costs of deregulation of electricity to be passed on to their customers." In exchange, DeLay received tens of thousands of dollars in donations from the lobbyists. (Source: Texas Monthly, May 2006)

  • Redistricting Rumba – DeLay forced through a mid-decade Texas congressional redistricting plan that robbed our state of nearly 100 years of seniority and three powerful committee chairmanships, leaving Texas with arguably the weakest large state Congressional delegation in the country. (Source: Austin American-Statesman June 28, 2007)

  • Beltway Boogie – After he was indicted and faced the possibility of losing re-election in a safe Republican seat, DeLay cowardly abandoned his constituents and fled the State of Texas for the suburbs of Washington, D.C. (Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram, August 20, 2006)

The great State of Texas has survived Tom DeLay and will thrive over the long-term. For DeLay himself, it’s not so certain.

Now having Tom Delay and Karl Rove dancing behind bars - that's a show I would watch!

5. Yes, I'd watch a dancing behind bars too!
I think one of his most damaging acts was the redistricting of Texas. I wish that could have been reversed somehow.

Great picture!

6. The important thing to consider - it's coming around again
The census numbers come out next year and in 2011, the Texas legislature will be at it once again. The redistricting part. Texas has picked up population so we are expected to pick up between 3-4 Congressional seats too. So it is extremely important that we make more progress in getting control of the Legislature. We can at least control the Texas House. We're really, really close. 76-74 right now.

The picture comes from Lone Star Project. They did the Photoshopping.

I would have put him in jail stripes or at least an orange jumper.

9. Yes I bet it did
She's been hammering DeLay for many decades. It's time to hammer him some more. Until he is locked behind jail doors Texas is not safe. And now the whole country will be subjected to his two step - or will it be toe stepping?

:hi:

He's been tap dancing around the edges of what is and isn't legal for decades.

11. Five Moves DeLay Won't Use on 'Dancing With the Stars'
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thegaggle/archive/2009/08/18/five-moves-delay-won-t-be-able-to-use-on-dwts.aspx|Newsweeks The Gaggle blog 8/18/09]
Five Moves DeLay Won't Use on 'Dancing With the Stars'

(snip)

1. Redistrict to get more votes. To win DWTS, Tom DeLay will need every vote he can get. It is, after all, a democracy of sorts. But, unfortunately for DeLay, this electorate isn't easily gerrymandered. Back in the early years of this decade, Delay’s fingerprints were all over a controversial redistricting of his home state, Texas, which drew an electoral map more favorable to Republicans. The plan ended up before the Supreme Court, where one of the newly drawn districts was invalidated.

2. Quit if it looks like he won’t win. It’s hard to forget DeLay’s swift political demise amid the Jack Abramoff scandal. After a Texas grand jury indicted him on charges of evading election law through illegal fundraising in 2005, DeLay’s political future looked shaky. Due for reelection in 2006, Delay won the Republican primary but pulled out before the general election. “He just decided that the numbers and the whole political climate were against him, and that it was time to step aside,” a congressional aide told The New York Times. Quitting when the odds are stacked against you may save your political hide, but it doesn’t make for good reality TV.

DeLay Vows To Dance On Despite Injury
(snip)
Former House majority leader and current Dancing With The Stars contestant Tom DeLay tweeted today that he may have a stress fracture -- but that won't stop him from tearing up the floor.
(snip)
Also check out our photos and video of DeLay's dance moves, plus his recent loony appearance on Hardball.

Oh my god his moves are so laughable. I can not believe he takes himself seriously as a dancer! Wait... yes I can because he's delusional.
