Arlington ISD field trip to see war criminal is cancelled
Thanks to RamboLiberal for sharing the good news:

Six days after drawing fire for not showing President Barack Obama's speech to schoolchildren, Arlington Superintendent Jerry McCullough announced Monday that he also will not be allowing 600 fifth-graders to attend a Super Bowl event next week featuring former President George W. Bush.

McCullough made national headlines – and issued an apology - last week after it was discovered that he didn't allow students to watch Obama's speech live, but that the district had previously approved a fifth-grade field trip to the new Cowboys Stadium on Sept. 21, where Bush is scheduled to speak during a Super Bowl XLV kickoff event...

"I have informed the North Texas Super Bowl XLV host committee that the AISD will not participate in the kickoff event on Sept. 21 in order to maintain our focus on instruction," McCullough wrote.

McCullough said last week that he didn't allow students to watch Obama's speech live Tuesday because he didn't want to disrupt the school day. After district offices were flooded with calls from parents and media about the district's plans to allow students to hear Bush speak, McCullough issued an apology.

1. Well there you go
If you put a simple speech by our current President about education off limits, then going on a field trip to see a former one should also be off limits.

I feel sorry for the kids caught up in this stupid political tug of war however.

They should have been able to do both. I'm sure they really wanted to go on a field trip to the Super Bowl event. Maybe the parents who protested the idea of listening to the Obama speech will get a clue that these kinds of extreme reactionary fits have unintended consequences.

You would hope that they would have equal concern about the kind of science and accurate sex ed their kids are getting. Those are the battles they should be screaming about. Parents should make sure their kids actually get 21st century education.

2. Meanwhile, the state requeirement for health education has been cut
I'm afraid our educational system is going to get even worse before it starts to get better. November 2010 awaits...

3. Exactly
Our country has fallen way behind other countries in providing a first rate public education system. And it does keep getting worse when we're still arguing about things like evolution in this state. Geeze....
