Phone Banking: I Got A Lot Of Answering Machines Last Night

I was a late-comer to active campaign work this season and didn't do very much. But I DID do some phone banking before a weekend trip to Fort Worth.

I got a lot of answering machines last night here in Travis County and out in El Paso. I suspect that a lot of people were watching the ball game. Since it was on, I did not follow the script and rushed through my pitch for Democrats (Hey, baseball fans, do YOU want to be interrupted while watching the World Series?).

I feel that I did SOMETHING regardless of how things turn out.

1. It's so hard to reach people these days!

No one wants to answer the phone or come to the door; when email was a novelty, everybody answered it, but now emails just go into the trash.

At my Democratic precinct early this morning, I had good luck poll greeting, but that's almost the only face-to-face contact I've had with the voters 'round here.

2. I got tired of answering all the plitical calls.

So after a while if the number wasn't on the list of people I want to talk to, it didn't get answered.
