Swiftboat Ad Funder Gives Big Bucks To Karl Rove's Super PAC

Bob Perry, the Texas real estate mogul who bankrolled the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth advertisements against then-Presidential candidate John Kerry back in 2004, is now cutting checks to a conservative "super PAC" run by two former aides to George W. Bush.

American Crossroads, run by former Bush aides Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, said in a Federal Elections Commission report filed yesterday that it got $500,000 from Perry back in late February.

The group, which spent more than any other super PAC in the 2010 election cycle, also received $2 million from the Jerry Perenchio Living Trust, which is affiliated with Jerry Perenchio, the chief executive of Chartwell Partners and $1 million from Robert Rowling, the chief executive officer of TRT Holdings.

Fuck you Bob Perry and your little dog Karl Rove too!! :puke:

'Sanctuary cities' bill loses momentum

'Sanctuary cities' bill loses momentum
Putting the measure in jeopardy, two of Texas' top business leaders step in to stop Perry-backed legislation

AUSTIN — As two of Texas' most politically-involved business leaders emerged as opponents, a bill banning "sanctuary cities" lost crucial momentum Friday, raising the possibility the measure will be killed or substantially weakened before the special session of the Texas Legislature ends Wednesday.

HillCo Partners' lobby team, led by Neal T. "Buddy" Jones, is working on behalf of Houston home builder Bob Perry and San Antonio grocery store magnate Charles Butt to alter a proposal that would permit law enforcement officers to inquire about the immigration status of people they detain, Jones' partner Bill Miller confirmed.

Miller declined to detail the changes Jones hopes to make in the legislation, saying only that they have "given language to members" to consider including in the proposal, which would carry financial penalties for cities that prohibit law enforcement from inquiring about immigration status.

The opposition of the business leaders demonstrates a schism in the Republican Party on the issue, designated a priority by Gov. Rick Perry. Bob Perry, no relation to the governor, is a prolific Republican contributor who has given $2.5 million to the governor's campaign coffers since 2001. HEB CEO Butt has made substantial contributions to members of both parties.

Shop more local. Farmer's markets etc. You can't avoid going to the big market stores entirely I've found, but I am shifting more of my grocery purchases to local independents. Small convenience stores in our area are local i.e. non-7/11 stores.

6. Republican bigotry meets Republican greed
Greed wins. It's the TeaBaggers versus the MoneyBaggers, and the rich people always win. Always.

I wonder how much more disrespect the Tea Party will keep taking after sanctuary cities goes down. It's past time they stopped voting GOP, I just don't think they're smart enough to break themselves of the habit.

7. Rich people always win :(
So true.

I don't mind having the Sanctuary cities bill die, but what really riles me is that the damn bozos who put the damn thing on the table as an emergency to begin with. Money was obviously in the mix.

Sanctuary cities ban in peril
(snip)

The special legislative session ends Wednesday, and the prospects for a ban on sanctuary cities don’t look good.

A Capitol source familiar with the negotiations said Sunday that the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker had agreed to put language in one of the fiscal matters bills, Senate Bill 1, that would issue financial penalties against cities that had sanctuary-city policies. But Sen. Robert Duncan, the Senate Bill 1 author, and other Senate negotiators are objecting.

But another source said there was no hard-and-fast agreement among the Big 3 to put the language into Senate Bill 1 because Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst wanted a different solution — one that included a tougher sanctuary-cities ban. And, in fact, Dewhurst issued a statement late Sunday saying the House needs to act on a separate sanctuary-cities ban already approved by the Senate.

Dewhurst said, “Almost two weeks ago, the Senate passed Senate Bill 9, a comprehensive ban on Sanctuary Cities allowing municipal police officers to inquire about the immigration status of a person lawfully detained or arrested, but the House has not taken action. A majority of our senators have asked for the House to take up and consider Senate Bill 9 (Monday), without amendment, and get it to the Governor’s desk before we adjourn on Wednesday.”

So the Senate wants the House to take up Senate Bill 9 today. It’s not on the calendar, so don’t hold your breath.

And in related news Rick Perry is an official Koch whore... Surprise, surprise....

Postcards from the Lege blog AAS 6/27/11
Perry spoke Sunday at Koch brothers’ gathering near Vail
(snip)

Gov. Rick Perry spoke Sunday at a summit hosted by the billionaire Koch brothers near Vail, Colorado.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner described the Colorado summit as a “private gathering of business leaders” and said it was not related to a possible presidential campaign.
“This was an opportunity to talk about the economic success in Texas,” Miner said, adding that it was no different than other speeches Perry gives touting the Texas job record.

Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries, an energy conglomerate based in Kansas, are among the country’s leading financial backers of conservative candidates and causes.
(snip)
It’s not entirely clear how Perry got to Colorado, but a plane owned by aircraft dealer Goldsmith Team LLC flew from Aspen to Georgetown on Sunday, flight records show.
In 2010, Goldsmith made more than $25,000 worth of in-kind contributions to Perry’s re-election campaign. And now that the legislative session and veto period are over, Perry and other state officials can again accept in-kind contributions.

Perry has his hand held out for the season of money greasing by corporate whores. :puke:

8. Shopping local
I finally had an opportunity to join a CSA (consumer supported agriculture) and I love it! Fresh fruits and veggies from a local, sustainable farmer. I get weekly deliveries and it is now the bulk of my groceries. I shop very little at grocery stores now. The food is so fresh and tasty, plus it has helped me to drop a few pounds too :)

9. Awesome onestepforward!
I'm eating a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables too. Been losing some weight too!

Next year I'm going to plant a garden. I'm getting the soil ready this year. Maybe I can plant in the fall but I think I'm not going to have time before next spring.

Here's a helpful link to listing of Farmer's Markets across Texas Cities:

10. That's great!
I wish I could plant a garden... too much shade. I hope you'll enjoy yours!
:hi:

If anyone in the Houston area is interested in the CSA that I've been subscribing to, PM me for a link. The farmer has drop-off spots in many areas of Houston. A new cycle will start in about 8 weeks.
