Rick Perry's Spectacular Fall From Grace

Just to recap, in less than two months Rick Perry has:

  1. Suggested that maybe Ben Bernanke should be lynched.

  2. Declined to back off his contention that Social Security is an unconstitutional Ponzi scheme.

  3. Called climate change a climate change a "contrived phony mess" that was cooked up by scientists who have "manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling in to their projects."

  4. Pissed off the conservative base by defending his decision to (in Michele Bachmann's immortal words) give "government injections" to "innocent little 12-year-old girls." Said Perry condescendingly: "What I don't get is what parents don't understand about an opt out."

Someone pass the popcorn oil. We have a downward slide to keep greasing.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Texas Democrats get to enjoy Texas GOPsters' consternation this year without any guilt. After all, WE didn't vote for Slick Rick.

4. Probably Not. It's Like Bankers And Redlining.
I doubt it. It's like bankers and red-lining before things like the Community Reinvestment Act (Legislation now scapegoated by Tea-bagging reactionaries for the bank failures, despite the immense good that legislation did for cities across the state and across the country); the national Democratic Party think we're a fine source for donors, but actually provide money to fund Texas Democratic candidates, that's another matter altogether.

3. National poll shows sharp drop for Perry

First Reading: National poll shows sharp drop for Perry

(snip)

The Washington Post and ABC came out with a national poll late Monday night that put Mitt Romney in first place with 25 percent, followed by Gov. Rick Perry and Herman Cain tied at 16 points apiece in second place. Perry has dropped 13 points since a Post/ABC poll in early September.

From the Post story: “Perry’s support for the Texas policy of providing in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants appears to be a significant problem in the GOP race. About two-thirds of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they are less likely to vote for a candidate who backs such a policy. Among tea party supporters, nearly eight in 10 say this position is a negative factor. The falloff for Perry against other announced candidates has been particularly steep among those aligned with the tea party movement. In early September, Perry had a 3-to-1 advantage over any other candidate among those “strongly” backing the tea party, but his supported has plummeted from 45 percent to 10 percent in this group. Among all conservatives, Perry’s support has been sliced in half, from 39 to 19 percent. Some of his decline may stem from shaky debate showings: A majority of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents who have watched recent debates say the more they hear about Perry, the less they like him.”

• Meanwhile, a Florida poll released Monday showed Perry running fourth among Republicans in the state: Romney 28, Cain 24, Gingrich 10, Perry 9, as reported by the St. Petersburg Times. The poll was conducted by Gainesville-based War Room Logistics, which typically polls for Republicans.

Perry has dropped 13 points since a Post/ABC poll in early September.
:spray:

I can hardly contain my glee. :)

5. Rick Perry’s Confederate Past Comes Back To Haunt Him

AUSTIN, Texas– Eleven years ago, when the NAACP stepped up a campaign to remove the Confederate battle flag from statehouses and other government buildings across the South, it found an opponent in Rick Perry.

Texas had a pair of bronze plaques with symbols of the Confederacy displayed in its state Supreme Court building. Perry, then lieutenant governor, said they should stay put, arguing that Texans “should never forget our history.”
