Stop offshore drilling on Virginia's coastline
Recently the Virgina General Assembly voted to revoke the current ban on offshore oil and gas drilling for our coastline. This destructive practice has been banned along the East Coast for two decades by a federal moratorium aimed at protecting America's fragile beaches and coasts.

We need your help to tell Governor Warner to veto this dangerous legislation and protect our coasts! Fill out the form below to send a free fax to Governor Warner today!

5. Warner's protection of the Environment
Gov. Warner has a very spotty record on the environment. Warner appointed pro-business people to the state agency which approved, by majority vote, the draining of millions of gallons of water from the Mattaponi River to supply a reservoir in King William County. Because of Gov. Warner's appointments, the only hope the Mattaponi River has now rests on a decision by the US Corps of Engineers in New York, which will decide whether the Mattaponi survives or is destroyed. The only way Virginians can stop the drilling off the Virginia coast is to get Gov. Warner to veto the bill, and the only way we can get an ambitious politician like Warner to support the environment is to generate thousands of letters to his office in Richmond. That may be the only way Gov. Warner will listen to anyone who does not have pro-business blinders on.

7. Great. Like the water on Va Beach's strip couldn't get uglier.
Leave it to the Rethugs in charge of the Commonwealth to find a way. :eyes:

8. There's a fault line out there.
I heard, not too long ago, that there was a fault line in the Atlantic, not far from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Drilling could cause this to slip.

What would they be drilling for anyway? Do we have Oil in the Atlantic?

All that Ocean front land on the Eastern Shore is inaccessable. I think it has been bought by the National Wildlife Federation or something to keep it undeveloped. It is our ANWAR.
