Skyline case to be heard by board (Skyline Water Company)
Allison Brophy Champion - Staff Writer
Culpeper Star Exponent
Saturday, June 11, 2005

Of the 364 households in Culpeper, Fauquier and Orange counties served by Skyline Water Company, more than half - about 190 - lodged complaints in the past month with the State Corporation Commission. <snip>

From 2001 to 2004, the Norman Acres system was cited seven times for “average exceedance of radium” - a radioactive metallic element. Pelham Manor was cited three times for exceeding acceptable levels of tetrachloroethylene in 2003 and 2004 lab samples. The Drysdale system three times experienced “major metal” levels in samples, and cyanide was detected in 2003. <snip>

The vast majority of contaminants detected in Travers’ system, like the radium, do not pose an immediate health threat to those who drink the water, he added. Harmful effects could be experienced only after 50 to 70 years of long-term consumption, he said.

The Skyline Water Company is not the only private system regularly cited for violations. “We have a lot of waterworks with equal or greater violations,” Eggborn said. <Mmm. Drink up!>
