I will try and look into them myself today, but I was wondering what the general consensus was here about who of the four Democrats running was the most qualified?
The fellow from Southwest Virginia is pretty conservative. I answered a telephone survey for his campaign a while back and it seemed like they were trying to figure out how quiet to keep his stands on social issues like family values and gay rights. I wouldn't support him.
Leslie Byrne and Viola Baskerville are more liberal. Byrne has served in Congress and Baskerville in the General Assembly and on Richmond's City Council. I'd be happy with either one of them.
3. Chap is a DINO, and unfortunately sounds like the favorite
from what I just read in his profile. Sounded even more so than Puckett out of SW (who at least acknowledges we probably have to raise the gas tax to pay for roads around here.) Baskerville has been pretty critical of Kaine recently - not that it's a bad thing since there's plenty about Kaine I'm critical about. Just that if they end up running on a ticket together it could be used against them.
I would choose between Byrne and Baskerville, though I think Byrne probably has the better shot between the two.
As a Richmond resident I would rather see two candidates from Richmond on the ticket, but I do not like Viola Baskerville and I think Chap regionally balances out the ticket. Our number one goal is to get Tim Kaine elected governor, and I think Chap helps Kaine in the General Election.
Phillip Puckett will get my vote in today's primary. He will fulfill the duties of Lt. Governor with integrity and a staunch support for the Democratic Party. He supported John Kerry in the presidential election that proved his loyalty to the party. I did not know if he would support Kerry considering his conservative stance on some issues. But he did. He will always put the party first when deciding the best course of action. Get out and vote for Phillip Puckett in the primary today.
count the lg race as an automatic gop win. if she can't hold on to her house seat in the blue part of northern virginia, she definitely cannot win statewide.
