Check out this proposed design for the Washington quarter
From the KOMO-TV website:

Does the image of the jet plane emerging from the Space Needle creep anyone else out? Or is it just me?

1. Worst. Design. Ever.
Hope the Washingtonians will reject it and come up with a simple design instead.

2. What's that shapeless blob on left of the Needle?

Is the Space Needle really the most recognized thing in Washington?
I always thought it was a tie between the Microsoft logo and a Starbucks.

3. I have no idea what that thing is...
An ocean wave? An ugly rhododendron plant? Your guess is as good as mine.

4. When I lived in WA...the most notable thing in the state ...
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 03:33 PM by rasputin1952
was MT Rainier, a truly beautiful sight. Space Needle, yeah, signifies Seattle, so what...WA is ahell of a lot more than Seattle!

BTW...I got my first FL quarter the other day, and stood in the checkout line for a few extra seconds. Then turned around and said tot he line: "There's no voting booth, no wonder that asshole won"!

I got a good laugh, and that's in Nebraska!!!!:D

5. I am not opposed to the Space Needle being on it
but I am a native Seattleite and therefore probably have a bias. It signifies, well, something, I suppose.

I would be horrified if they put a cup of coffee on it, as the article suggests. That would be beyond lame.

And a big LOL to you for your comment on the FL quarter - I haven't seen one yet. Great line! :D

8. Maybe it's an image of St. Helens erupting
and the ash cloud! BWAHAHAHA!!! That's what it looks like to me, anyway.

What a mess. That's a horrible graphic design, way too busy and unbalanced.

7. Whyinthehell
don't they use a picture of Mt. Rainier, or a ferry? Our ferry system is the largest in the country, and our car ferries are very recognizable as an emblem of Washington, particularly the image of a ferry with Mt. Rainier in the background.

10. I like that idea
A ferry in the foreground, with Mt. Rainier in the background. Mt. Rainier definitely needs to be on it. It's the most recognizable thing about Washington.

11. I think that thing in the lower right
is supposed to be Mt. Rainier, but the design's so nasty and cluttered that you can hardly make it out.

There have been some wonderful local artists who've done pictures of the ferries with Mt. Rainier in the background; why on earth would they have picked this fugly thing?!

13. Does the plane represent Boeing?
Maybe the design was submitted before they moved their corporate headquarters to Illinois.

Since Boeing's HQ bailed for Chicago, they don't need any more recognition as being from Washington. Ever. No airplanes. None.
