Local soldier's reaction to Fahrenheit 9/11 - The News Tribune
For U.S. Army Spc. Edward Cruz, 23, it's been midnight in America for too long now.

Cruz, a soldier on leave between deployments to Iraq, stood outside Tacoma's Grand Cinema early Friday morning, weeping. He was among the first screeners at the theater's 12:01 a.m. premiere of "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's blistering indictment of President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq.

After a moment of being unable to speak, Cruz, from Bremerton, sought to explain the transformation he's had.

That transformation happened before Cruz saw "Fahrenheit." But the film, which he watched with fellow Spc. Andre Roberge, 21, did much to affirm both men's viewpoints about the war.

1. F9/11 is totally supportative of our soldiers.
And soldiers seeing it know that.

The prevarications of the wrong wing about the movie are meant to obscure the truth that wrong wingers are chicken hawks lacking the courage to back up their jingoism with commitment.

2. I think the film can, and will, transform many
My husband and I saw F 9/11 on Friday, first show at 11:30 AM in Alexandria. The theater was full by the time the film started, and at the end a standing ovation from everyone in that theater!. I found myself weeping for the Iraqi's and for Ms. Lipscomb and her son. And for our soldiers. I found myself laughing at bush for the moron he is. And I found myself transformed by the things I'd not known before.

Yes, F 9/11 is a must see for everyone in a free, and open society. I was amazed and continue to be. Moore is to be commended for his strength of courage and conviction and for putting together one hell of a great documentary.

And I will be taking my 88 year old mother to see it this week.

3. Soldier's perspectives
Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. It helps destroy the myth that wanting Bush out is "not supporting the troops." And who better to bring that message to the mis-informed masses than some of the troops themselves.

I flew back from Frankfurt Germany in November of 2002 which was before the Iraq war was started. The plane was full of military, their families and contractors coming back from Afghanistan. When one of the wives told some one else "Bush is Da' Man!" the plane erupted into shouts back at her "Bush is a putz!" and "Bush sucks." Then discussions started between all the people who during the short encounter figured out that they all had something against Bush. I can only imagine what it is like among the military families now.

4. It's polarized, just like the rest of America
(Welcome to DU!)

We're a Navy family, and among the people we know, the number of Bush detractors almost equals the number of Bush supporters. Like Moore said in the film, all that people in the military ask is to not be sent to war unless it's necessary. As it becomes more and more obvious to people that this war is bogus, you will find more military against Bush.

Of course, we have a lot of uninformed Bush-loving morons, too. One of my husband's co-workers told me in all seriousness, "If Kerry gets elected, we won't get a pay raise for the next 4 years." :eyes:

6. I agree - he has it pretty easy
They're both in the submarine force. I guess it's easy to support Bush* and his bogus war if you know for sure that you aren't going to get sent to Iraq.
