Get Your War On! cartoonist to speak at Marshall University (Wed 10-27-04)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 25, 2004

Rolling Stone Cartoonist to Speak at Marshall University (10/27/04)

Cartoonist David Rees, creator of the strip Get Your War On will give a presentation followed by a book signing Wednesday October 27, 2004 at 7:30 PM in the Don Morris Room of the Marshall University student center.

Rees, a staff cartoonist for Rolling Stone magazine, first caught the attention of the public during the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, when his clipart strips featuring anonymous office workers discussing the chaotic events of the attacks and the following war in Afghanistan became an overnight internet sensation. His sarcastic pieces were widely forwarded through email and traffic to his then-relatively unknown website increased exponentially.

Before creating Get Your War On, Rees worked on the office strip My New Filing Technique is Unstoppable.

The success of Rees's strip earned him slots in various magazines including The Progressive, The Nation, and Punk Planet. He currently enjoys a regular spot on the letters page of each issue of Rolling Stone.

Get Your War On Has been compiled into two paperback collections, the proceeds of which are donated to Adopt-a-Minefield, a de-mining organization currently working in Afghanistan.

The event is organized by the Marshall Student Organization White Rose and is sponsored in part by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
