What would you do, if a rethuglican flipped you three fingers?
I was driving my family of four to church today. I have one John Kerry sticker and a Kerry/Edwards sticker on my minivan. A jerk in one of those small Suzuki jeep things floored it, swerving in front of me and flipped me three fingers.

The squealing wheels and the obvious anger (the stickers hit a nerve, apparently) had the effect of shouting at me. I was offended by the rudeness.

Well, lo and behold, the rat turns into my church parking lot. I followed him. Pulled up right next to him and parked. My husband started in on him right away. I confronted him with how unchristian and unpatriotic his behavior was. You could tell the guy was embarrassed. All he had to say was: "Aw, it's no big deal... "

What an ass.

Anyway, when we got home, my neighbor tells us some jerk tried to steal his yard sign late last night. He happened to be facing his front window and caught the jerk putting his hands on the sign and so my neigbhor yelled out some well-chosen expletives at the jackass and jumped into his car to look for them. This jogged my memory because I remember being jarred awake last night by someone yelling "Republican piece of shit!" Apparently, that scared the crap out of him because he took off taking neither my neighbor's nor my sign.

Dang, these thugs are resorting to some very thuggy tactics.

1. That's hilarious! He ended up at the same church as you!
It sounds like you handled it just right. Maybe it will be a learning experience for him.

As for people who steal or deface signs, they are thieves and vandals.

19. I'll try that. Really, I just wanted to flip him the middle finger, but
that would have been un-Christian of me.

Actually I found Free Republic before I found DU...FR kept banning me...

First I was Lucifer Himself - that lasted one post....

Then I chose Meyer Lansky and a string of five other mafia names just to keep the theme going...Currently I am rsiding dormantly over there as Carlo Gambino...then I found DU and kept the theme...but they let me stay here!

4. Republicans are like that
I don't know how it is in Winsconsin, but in PA you can get your car keyed for having a KerryEdwards sticker. It's like the deep South extends past the Mason-Dixon line up through Pittsburgh for no apparent reason.

I was kind of pumped this am, when I saw 2 Kerry/Edwards signs in Kewaunee (this area is supposedly shrub territory).

Check the link in DU:Wisconsin about yard signs stolen in Milwaukee.

Good for you for embarassing the SOB in the church parking lot. You might also want to let your pastor know what happened. Those kind of events make good tidbits for sermons! (believe me, I've used them!)

18. In Whitefish Bay... but go to church near the airport.
Being new, I'm not sure what suburb that is (St. Francis, maybe). Anyways, I see a zillion Kerry signs up here in the North shore, but there's a bunch of W signs down near the church we go to.

I think I will tell the minister about it. Thanks.

I'm also in Whitefish Bay and it's soothing to see so many more Kerry signs--especially after a shopping trip to <gasp> Menomonee Falls/Germantown!

7. What does it mean when they flip THREE fingers?
I sure don't think I'm out of touch, and the single finger bird is pretty normal everywhere I've lived. I never heard of the THREE finger flip. What is that???

14. The Dubya Flip.

Three fingers, held up, form a W. \|/.

You can reverse the gesture (as in the English "bird") and (with slightly curled fingers) flip 'em back the same three, use two for the traditional Brit-flip (basically a peace-sign but with palm INWARD) or any of the newer gestures. See my "pinky wave" comment.

Another great one is "The Shocker" which is the index, middle and pinky fingers raised, the ring finger curned inward and held with the thumb. Message: "Fuck you in the cunt AND the ass, simultaneously!" or "Two in the pink, one in the stink!" Google "The Shocker" for more info!

An expert in obscene sign language? Who, meeee?

13. Happened. I give 'em the "Pinky Curl"
The Pinky Curl (tm) is an incredibly obscene gesture! Start with the fist held horizontally, fingers curled in and down. Slowly, s-l-o-o-w-l-y-y-y extend the pinky finger downward from the fist and as you're doing that, s-l-o-o-w-l-y turn the fist upward into the classical "bird-flip" position while straightening the pinky skyward stiffly. End with the traditional Italian forearm slap and upward fingerjab!

Message: "YOu are so loathesome, I fuck you NOT with my middle finger (reserved for real men!) but with my PINKY! BA FONGU!"

It has the advantage of being an uncommon gesture, so its impact is sharper, it's a multi motional one, if you have the time for it, AND it uses the finger NOT used in the "Dubya-flip"

Variants on the gesture include (in liew of forearm slap) a repeated upward stabbing of the pinky as in "IN-out-IN-out-IN, you bastard!" or a slow wrist twist as in "Fuck you SIDEWAYS!" or "I REAM your pathetic ass!"

A longer variant is to jab the pinky at the guy and then fold it back into the fist and partially open-close-open-close-open-close the fisted hand in a pulsating gesture. Message? "Chinga to CORAZON!" or "Fuck you in the HEART!"

I used to deal with LA traffic. I'm a veteran!

15. I would think that he can't count to four!
But, otherwise, as (you are) a Christian, and on the way to church, I would emulate the example of Christ (in these circumstances).

I, on the other hand, would scream obscenities and if the mood struck me, do other unwise things.

Of course I would not be on the way to church and do not have a family.

It is not the time to match this sort of ugliness, tit for tat.

Now, of course, we can't be intimidated, but if I recall the Gospels correctly, Jesus wasn't either. And I think that you did the right thing -- bold -- but Christian -- and American.

for a crew of troglogdytes that complain about "thuggish unionists", these guys take the cake.

I told this story once before, but it's worth telling again.

Back in the 80's my dad's yard signs kept disappearing. Formerly a rural community, the developers had recently moved in and built a fairly exclusive golf course (Bear Creek Country Club) immediatley adjacent to my father's 7 acres. The signs that were disappearing were placed facing the entrance to the golf course.

After several thefts, my dad, a union printer, brought home cans and cans of this thick, rubberized ink. On the back of each yard sign, he placed a thick coat of this sticky black ink. He then posted the signs and checked on them often.

Not long after posting the signs, my dad noticed a either a mercedes or a beemer (I don't remember which) stop as they turned into the drive to the golf course. A man with what looked like a beautiful brown leather jacket jumped out crossed the property line and grabbed my dad's sign. Feeling the slimy ink on the back of the sign, he instictively pulled his hand back and wiped this ink down the front of his lovely coat.

Yard signs stopped disappearing from that point on.

The moral of the story: Always be prepared to go one step further than your adversary.

27. It's not the gesture that bugs me
It's that he could have gotten you into an accident, and that WOULD have been a big deal.

I flash victory signs at anyone with a Kerry sign. I've got a Real Deal round sign in one back window and a rainbow sign in the other back window (not gay, just thought it was purdy.)

As for the signs, I do believe it's happening on both sides.

I'm in New Berlin, Bush Country Central. How about you?

Every once in a while I find a Dem in stealth mode here. I have a supply of buttons and bumper stickers so I can hand them out when someone expresses approval.

I found quite a few people at my Lutheran Church are supporters. Freaked me out, I just assumed they'd be Bushy.
