Feingold: The Time for Answers is Now

Challenges Opponent for Answers on the Issues and Proposes Up to Five Debates

Feingold Senate Committee Press Release
September 13, 2004

Milwaukee – US Senator Russ Feingold today challenged the candidate who comes through tomorrow’s US Senate primary to a debate on the issues and proposed up to five debates between the two candidates.

1. Is my opponent going to make the same commitment I made when I was first elected to hold town hall listening sessions in every county, every year?

2. Does my opponent want to go back to the days before McCain Feingold when it was legal for members of congress and candidates for federal office to raise unlimited, unregulated soft money from unions, corporations and wealthy individuals?

3. Does my opponent believe that everyone in Wisconsin should be guaranteed health insurance coverage?

4. Why does my opponent support the Medicare Bill that stands in the way of the safe re-importation of lower-cost U.S.-made drugs from Canada?

5. Why does my opponent support the Medicare Bill that prohibits the federal government from negotiating lower prices with drug companies?

6. Does my opponent support the recently passed Australian-New Zealand Free Trade agreement?

Does my opponent support the proposed Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA)?

7. Does my opponent support returning to the bipartisan budget rules (PAYGO) that helped us balance the budget in the 1990’s?

8. Does my opponent support changing the mandates in President Bush’s No Child Left Behind bill to give Wisconsin schools local control?

9. Does my opponent believe, as the president does, that the PATRIOT ACT should be rubber stamped without changing a word, or does he believe that it needs to be fixed?

I'm looking forward to voting for him tomorrow, even though it's only the primary! :bounce:
