Packers hire Fleischer to consult on Favre saga
I'm series...

The Green Bay Packers have apparently decided they need a little help on the public relations front when it comes to handling the ongoing Brett Favre saga.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Packers will employ former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer for one month as a consultant.
Fleischer, who was President George W. Bush's official spokesperson for a majority of his first term in office, is now president of Ari Fleischer Sports Communications, a joint venture with IMG.

According to an Associated Press report, Fleischer met with Packers players Thursday, but the meeting was scheduled several weeks ago, before the Favre controversy flared up. The report also said while Fleischer didn't focus on how players should handle the Favre situation, the topic was discussed.

"Obviously it's a topic, and it wasn't ignored," Fleischer told the AP in a phone interview Thursday.

1. Do we have enough evidence to impeach Ted Thompson yet?
He seems to be the source of the trouble lately.

2. Wow. I'm not a Packers fan... but...

This is pretty sickening. It was already slimey beforehand. Favre clearly was only interested in playing this season after talking to members of the Vikings and because that's who he wanted to play for and knew there was no way the Packers would just give him up he's been forcing their hand and making them the bad guys in the media. He has no intention of playing for GB, just the intention of calling their bluffs until the fans are all with him and he is the sympathetic figure who deserves the opportunity to go to Minnesota. Favre has been tops in manipulating the media and the situation here.

That is not to say Thompson hasn't bungled this the entire way either. He could have opened this up when he originally mentioned Favre having to compete for his job by allowing him back to camp and Favre's protests against that (which he did protest) would have been heard right away, thus not giving him the chance to change the story. He waited until the story did change and the Packers had zero leeway and then called their bluff.

Favre would have had to weigh his options in this more carefully because it would have been him that risked alienating the Packers' faithful not Thompson. But Thompson played it all wrong.

And now bringing the biggest ratfucking liar in Press Secretarial History into this proves how incompetent Thompson is.

Let's face it Favre is going to get what he wants and the Packers will be tarnished for a very long time as a place free agents are going to be wary of coming to... and that's going to be because Favre played the media in a way that smartly made his cause the sympathetic one, whereas Thompson was not unlike Fleischer's previous boss and thickheaded ignoramus who refused to change his mind once the facts of the situation had changed.
