Atwood gets rock star treatment at opening of Toronto opera, Handmaid's Ta
TORONTO (CP) - Bare breasts, a crumbling Statue of Liberty and plenty of horny, thrusting hips brought to life popular Canadian novel The Handmaid's Tale.

Four years after it debuted in Copenhagen, the opera adaptation of Margaret Atwood's futuristic novel had its homecoming Thursday night in Toronto to a receptive audience. In fact, Atwood, a petite woman with a mass of blondish curls, received rock star treatment at the Hummingbird Centre where the Canadian Opera Company's production runs through Oct. 9.

Before the show started and during intermission, Atwood was continuously accosted at her eighth-row seat by friends and fans offering their congratulations.

2. Robertson Davies must be rolling in his grave.
He'd have so loved it if they'd done an opera of one of his. Especially The Lyre of Orpheus.
