Quebec's College of Physicians is investigating a Montreal-area private medical clinic where an elderly patient died last year in the waiting room.
When other patients noticed Sauvageau was having trouble breathing, a doctor was sent to look at him. He pronounced Sauvageau dead after a quick exam, without performing CPR, Rudel-Tessier said.
The doctor then called 911 to notify authorities about the death and have the body collected – but the coroner's report indicated he left Sauvageau's body on a chair in the waiting room while other patients were still around.
The college said it is investigating the clinic, which is overseen by Dr. Jacques Chaouilli, a Quebec physician best known for taking his fight for the right to offer private health care services all the way to Canada's Supreme Court.
