Housing first for mentally ill homeless
Quoth the Ceeb:

A new research project designed to study the link between mental health and homelessness is giving more than 1,300 people across Canada a chance to get something many might not have thought possible: a roof over their head.

The At Home research project, launched Monday by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, hopes to determine the value of providing housing first — and then following it with rehabilitation and treatment — for those who are homeless and mentally ill.

Altogether 1,350 people in Moncton, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver will be provided housing, and close to 1,000 other people will be provided health and social services but won't receive housing. Researchers will track both groups to assess the comparative success of each method.

As usual, it's a CBC article so probably best to avoid the comments.

I'm not going to argue with the fact, but I'm sort of surprised a project like this was allowed to launch under Harper.

1. Canadian homelessness research project and politics.
Some thoughts with regard to the moderator of
democraticunderground.com statement:

"I'm not going to argue with the fact, but I'm sort of
surprised a project like this was allowed to launch
under Harper."

Why is it that for every new multi million dollar program
there are no contacts to be reached in any area except for
in a particular voting district: this time being British
Columbia?
Is this a ( as normal ) premonition that the freaking
government announces huge projects nation wide in Canada
only to really support them in their pre-determined voter
district the government wants to play pork barrel politics
with for re-election purposes?

In reality the conservatives want to gain voter support in
an area of Canada where these types of programs have already
existed for some time and already have broad public support!

For example I see no contact number for Quebec dwellers to
contact their organization or group!
