Globe and Mail: Mass resignations deepen Tory riding rift
A Conservative Party family feud deepened this week in a riding held by controversial MP Rob Anders as a majority of members of his Calgary West riding association board quit their posts.

In total, 20 board members resigned this week in protest against the Conservative Party headquarters’ decision to seize control of their organization. The riding association had tried to buck a party decree that had been effectively shielding sitting MPs from nomination battles.

“We feel that democracy is being neither recognized nor served by the arbitrary and absolute control being utilized by the National Council in attempting to minutely direct both the actions and thoughts of the local Board,” a resignation letter sent to Tory headquarters from 17 quitting board members said.

Many departing board directors had favoured replacing Mr. Anders with a new candidate to carry the Tory banner into the next election, alleging he was doing a sub-par job.

1. I'd LOVE to know what's going on in this riding.
The riding has tried to oust Anders several times now, and always the PMO comes riding to his rescue...trampling on grass roots, democracy, their base and everything else.

Yet Anders is a crappy MP at the best of times. Born backbencher. Lazy, ineffective and an embarrassment to the party.

I'm guessing he knows where the bodies are buried. I can't think of any other explanation for this extraordinary effort by Harper to keep him as MP.
