Confessing complete ignorance about Canadian media and need some help.
Is Canada Free Press a reliable news source or do they have a significant political bias?

Thanks!

1. Ummm, their tagline is "Canada's conservative newspaper"
That should tell you what you need to know.

2. Well probably, but you never know.
After all, Fox says they are fair and balanced. ;-)

I did see their tagline, but before I blast someone using it as a source I wanted to get my ducks in a row.

3. The National Post .....
Edited on Wed May-04-11 12:14 AM by murphyj87
The National Post claims to be the "voice of Canadian conservatives". The Canada Free Press is the radical right, and has less credibility than Fox News.

If you want something more or less objective, try http://www.cbc.ca or http://www.theglobeandmail.com/

4. Thank you, that's what I thought.
I'm in a conversation with someone claiming to understand the international opinion of Obama because he reads the Canada Free Press. I wanted to make sure my instincts were correct before I called him out on it.

5. probably the organ most representative of Canadian opinion
and most consistently is the Toronto Star.

It's historically a Liberal Party mouthpiece but endorsed the NDP in this election, for instance. The Canadian electorate did much the same -- a majority of the popular vote was split between the NDP and the Liberal Party, with a majority of that majority going to the NDP.

So the Star generally reflects opinion other than the right wing, which is generally majority opinion.

www.thestar.com

While the Globe and Mail is itself a c/Conservative organ, its letters to the editor are generally from, uh, the "liberal élite". ;) And the Globe itself doesn't reflect the radical right ordinarily, when it's not endorsing Harper for PM.

6. True....
I forgot to mention the Toronto Star, and I think what you say is why I said "more or less objective". I think the Globe and Mail is more objective than the National Post, for example, as far as national newspapers go in Canada, although they both have their sane moments and their not so sane moments.
