Christian activists capturing Tory races
Ottawa — Christian activists have secured Conservative nominations in clusters of ridings from Vancouver to Halifax -- a political penetration that has occurred even as the party tries to distance itself from hard-line social conservatism.

At least three riding associations in Nova Scotia, four in British Columbia, and one in suburban Toronto have nominated candidates with ties to groups like Focus on the Family, a Christian organization that opposes same-sex marriage.

Some Conservatives argue that the selection of a large number of candidates from the religious right is an unfortunate turn for a party that was accused in last year's election campaign of harbouring a socially conservative "hidden agenda."

snip

Others within the party say they are extremely concerned and wished the party leaders had been more involved in the nominations.

Looks like Harper is going to be busy putting out fires in his own party to try and keep the illusion that his faux 'moderate' agenda is still alive, roflmao)

4. Well...

All the Halifax ridings mentioned are solidly in the NDP column. One of these morans would be running against Alexa MacDonald, and another against Peter Stoffer. The third... duh, not sure.

Looks like they're sacrificial lambs. Otherwise they'd be put up in the rural ridings where the Tories have traditional strength. Um... except that those are red Tory ridings more than anything else.

Peter (Pond Scum) MacKay's probably having a mild conniption over this, which is good.

ON EDIT: Actually, the third riding is Liberal--Geoff Regan, Fisheries Minister, has that one. Again something of a wash. Regan seems to have weathered the storm over his father (ex-premier), old "Raper" Regan, who was "not convicted" of serial sexual molestation of 14-year-old babysitters back in the 1950s and 60s. Our elderly Brit next-door neighbors inform me that neither they nor anyone with half a brain let their daughters babysit for the Regans back then--"Couldn't keep his hands to himself. Oh, no. Horrible man. Horrible. Awful."

2. good!

Best way to ensure they lose ... except maybe in Bentley, Alberta ...

Unfortunately, having an irrelevant Conservative candidate also works against the NDP in some instances. The right-wing vote swings to the Liberals, where the NDP could have won in a 3-way split.
