1. "Bastards and Boneheads"...
A humorous but accurate biographical survey of Canadian prime ministers, divided into the above two categories.

5. From Amor to Zalm - a Primer on BC Politics and Its Wacky Premiers
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 02:34 PM by arikara
If you're from BC. It doesn't go past Vanderzalm, the author should do an update because we've had very wacky premiers since...

on edit: hmmm... the URL came out all funny and I can't fix it. Just go to abebooks.com and paste the title in the search.

9. I'll recommend Bastards and Boneheads as well
It does take an overview of Canadian political history by way of an examination of the Prime Ministers. Don't let the title put you off or the fact that it uses humour, It does provide a good overview. In the same vein the same author; Will Ferguson, also wrote "Why I hate Canadians" which is also very good on political and especially cultural history.

He uses provocative titles but his books are intelligent and passionate.

This time I'm trying to get a multi-spot vacation planned to BC to accompany my conference in Seattle.

10. I'm reading one right now called "Grits"
It's a history (from the 80's) and explanation (and apparently insider view) of the Liberal Party.
