Next election my last: Ralph Klein
CALGARY - Ralph Klein, Canada's longest-serving premier, confirmed Friday that the next provincial election will be his last.

When asked if it would be his last, Klein replied, "If I am alive, yes. Yes, absolutely...."

1. I'd be thrilled but
who will replace him? Somebody worse?

2. But If He
Is not alive, then it is not his last.
He is starting to pull all the strings possible to win. His opposition is from both the right and the left.

3. The next election will not change much, but the one after that....
The way my province's politics work is that there are long periods of rule by a popular alpha male leader. Often, when that leader leaves, a void is created, and multi-party democracy returns for a time (last seen in the post-Lougheed Getty era). The Alberta NDP is resurgent, and with the collapse of the Provincial Liberals (who are massively in debt), and a split right with the rise of the nutbar Alberta Alliance, we are going to be in for interesting times.

The NDP is the historical opposition in Alberta. Perhaps you should learn something of our provincial political history, with particular reference to the 1986 and 1989 elections?

7. Sorry SLB
I thought you were referring to the chances of the NDP governing in the Province of Alberta.

8. No.
I expect a return to our 1980's levels. Anything else is beyond my knowledge.

4. Pity. I'd much rather he'd said...
"Next breath my last..." Ah well.
