Poll suggests Liberals ahead of the pack
OTTAWA (CP) — Stephen Harper is adding more flavouring to his dish-a-day campaign recipe, but so far it doesn't appear to be appealing to voter taste buds.

As Harper made yet another election promise Wednesday and Paul Martin played the statesman, two new polls suggested the Liberals held a healthy lead despite a week of big-ticket Tory pledges.

A massive Decima Research online survey of nearly 9,000 people provided to The Canadian Press put the Liberals at 34 per cent support, compared with 26 for the Conservatives. The NDP was at 20 per cent and the Bloc Quebecois, 14.

A Strategic Counsel telephone poll done for the Globe and Mail and CTV had the Liberals at 35 per cent, the Tories at 29 and the NDP at 16.

Ahh!

Boy it has been a long campaign. But we can all relax now and at least have one good nights sleep.

So now we don't have to struggle over strategic voting, and all that, we can just vote for our best representative.

Gosh, this is a nice world.

1. If the Libs pull 3 more points they could get 140+ seats.
Combined with the NDP, this coalition will have an outright majority.

2. Still early in the game
I'm just hoping that at least one of the Conservatives will have a major foot-in-mouth episode that would scuttle Harper's image. All that hard work to look reasonable and endearing to the citizens down the tube!

My concern is that the Cons will play it much smarter this time than during the last campaign, and make themselves look like a respectable option. At least there's a very dim chance for a Con majority unless the Liberals utterly fuck up Ontario. However, I don't even want a Conservative minority...why? If the Cons don't win, Harper will be gone...hopefully replaced by a more moderate Con. If Harper is Minority leader, he can still make a case for the other coalitions bogging him down and insisting that his "good plans" can only work if elected as Majority leader in the upcoming election. All that being said, I do hope the Liberals replace Martin (even if my cousin's husband is his speechwriter).
