BNP weapon stash racist was copper
Workmates "covered up" for a police officer when the BNP supporter was caught with an arsenal of weapons.

Ellis Hammond, 23, appeared in court after cops found a stun gun, CS spray, combat knives, knuckleduster, replica AK-47 and racist literature at his home. But magistrates were not told that he was a police community support officer. He admitted firearms charges and was left off with a conditional discharge in March.

The Crown Prosecution Service said: "We would have used the information if we had had it. It is fair to say it would have been helpful."

Thug Hammond was allowed to resign from the Met Police and did not face a disciplinary hearing. A relative said: "The Met have been very good about this. "They gave Ellis the option to resign, which was good because if he had been dismissed it would have been on his CV. There were people from the Met at court to support him, which was nice too."

But the Independent Advisory Group, which looks into how the police handles race issue, has re-examined the case. Nazir Afzal, head of the CPS in South London, confirmed that Hammond's occupation was not in the prosecution file. Hammond, from Bexley, Kent, is now being investigation in an internal police inquiry by the Met's Directorate of Professional Services.
