E-mail error ends up on road sign
When officials asked for the Welsh translation of a road sign, they thought the reply was what they needed.

Unfortunately, the e-mail response to Swansea council said in Welsh: "I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated".

So that was what went up under the English version which barred lorries from a road near a supermarket.

"When they're proofing signs, they should really use someone who speaks Welsh," said journalist Dylan Iorwerth.

1. One would think.....
That the person doing the translating would sort of have a clue that the people asking for assistance in translating DON'T SPEAK WELSH.:eyes:

3. The article refers to their "in-house translation service"
So, yes. But evidently nobody involved in the entire process after the email spoke Welsh - even enough to spot the word for "office" (swyddfa), which you'd think they might have seen before!

Could have been worse, though: one of the "see also" links on that story is about a "cyclists dismount" sign which was translated into the Welsh for "bladder inflammation upset".

There must be a Fark competition in this!
