Senior Tory Christopher Shale found dead at Glastonbury festival
"Christopher Shale, a senior Conservative who was discovered dead in a toilet at Glastonbury on Sunday morning may have died in the early afternoon of the previous day, according to a family friend who said he was briefed by medical staff.

The body of Shale, 56, a close political ally of David Cameron, was discovered on Sunday morning hours after he was quoted in a Conservative strategy document leaked to a Sunday newspaper, as saying the Tories had come across over the years as "graceless, voracious, crass, always on the take" and needed to radically change."

I wasn't going to post this, but then I saw it on the DU front page with a lot of rather crass comments about it being suicide or "a hit". Since there hasn't been an autopsy yet, and the rozzers are not talking about suicide, it does seem a bit much to be flinging language like this around.

1. Sadly....
...something like this is always going to attract the conspiracy theorists who want it to be something sinister.

It's still a tragedy though.

2. I'm more concerned that it may have been triggered by a "leak" to the Wail
I have no empathy with the Tories but they are a legitimate democratic party and should be able to conduct a strategic debate about policy without the RW hacks sticking their Size 12 Docs in.

3. The Torygraph certainly seems to be insinuating that there's a connection ...

Of course there's no "honour among thieves" among the sundry members of the Tory press, is there?

4. It's a tragedy for his family and friends...
...particularly because his only crime was telling the truth. It wasn't like he was trying to betray the party, unless you were some obsessive right wing crank. And who in their right mind could disagree with his analysis of the Tories' lack of appeal?
