Brothel call claims heap more pressure on Labor MP
Labor backbencher Craig Thomson is under renewed pressure today, as more allegations emerge about his use of a Health Services Union credit card when he was secretary of the union.

Mr Thomson has admitted to authorising a credit card payment for prostitutes on his union credit card, but says another man had used the card and had later paid $15,000 back to the union.

It has also been alleged Mr Thomson withdrew more than $100,000 from the credit card account to help bankroll his successful election campaign for the NSW central coast seat of Dobell in 2007.

This has been quietly simmering away for a while now, but is just coming to public attention. Abbott has been very restrained, probably because one of his own MPs, Mary Jo Fisher, is under investigation. But the Government must be feeling the tension - they can't afford to lose a single member.

Keep an eye on this story - it could bring down the Gillard Government.

1. I read about this earlier today. I think it could possibly bring down the govt...
And if Abbot wasn't waiting in the wings, I'd be thinking that was a good thing!

I really have no sympathy for people who are so dense that they use anything but their own personal credit cards for any purchases that might be the slightest bit questionable...

2. Agreed - you know what's legit and what isn't.
It's very clear even to dummies, but politics seems to attract people like this. It predates his run for a Labor seat, and you wonder why alarm bells didn't ring at the time. Apparently Rudd knew, and was content to let the union investigate.

And we're not talking about a couple of hundred dollars – his bills for prostitutes run into tens of thousands. What a fool!
