If we really consider things rationally, what were the odds for a northern, liberal, Vietnam (a polarizing war to this day) Senator (there are 4 parameters there!!!) to defeat this war time, bible thumping president when the fear and religion and hatred card plays so well in so much of the country.
I am devasatated.....I am 48, a New England born progressive/liberal, always vote Democrat, (living unfortunately surrounded by some real whackos in NC, though there are some great people here as well)...who thought we did have a chance. But see my first paragraph above. On edit - yes, I have two daughters, 19 and 23 - I worry for their future. My wife and I are having a wonderful life, and we can deal with this shit better - but they deserve better, and are both equally devastated with the outcome.
I went from Anyone But Bush to really respecting and having great hopes for Kerry - but we are fighting against a social and cultural tide at this point in time. The sun rose this morning - we will go on. All should get through their anger and disappointment in their own ways, then get back to being positive, to showing why our views are the ONLY way to move forward, for the future of our country - indeed, the world.
Bush has never been and will never be MY president. I am going to continue to mute him or turn off the TV when he comes on....I will return to focusing on my wonderful family, my hobbies, my life - let's all be part of the solution, not part of the problem......let's be the light in this dark, dark time.
I've found my time reading through DU over the last few years incredibly inspiring, valuable, and important to my sanity. You are great people. It is an honor to have been touched by your intelligence, empathy, and passion. Thanks to all....onward and upward.
