Write/call/fax the House Judiciary Republicans
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 05:37 PM by regularjoe
Ask them to attend the hearing tomorrow. Ask them to support the letter to Blackwell asking questions. Ask them to investigate the election.

I know, I know. What good will it do? I'm hoping we can appeal to the integrity within some of them. I don't know any of them and I have no idea how they will react. Please write but, do NOT send hate mail! Be bold, but not overbearing! Hate, yelling, screaming, accusing doesn't make you right. Your position is either right or it isn't regardless of who you convince. So this is NOT about proving you are right, it is about action!

Think about it. If I send you a letter/call/ or fax and I slander you or I outright accuse you, what are you going to do? Get defensive. And we don't want that. Try to write so that they can't tell who you voted for but they know that you are extremely serious about these irregularities and problems.

Use well reasoned arguments with a wide base of evidence. Don't pin your arguments on a single incident.

Yes, the (in)famous Tom Feeney of the affidavit story is on the House Judiciary Committee.

I'm not asking for wishywashy passive letters, but I want to avoid hate-filled accusations.

Edit: The Hearing Info.
Democratic Representative John Conyers, Jr. of Michigan, ranking Minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, will hold a hearing on Wednesday 08 December 2004 to investigate allegations of vote fraud and irregularities in Ohio during the 2004 Presidential election. The hearing is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. EST in the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC.

Note: See below the contact info for three letters I wrote that you can borrow from. These three letters weren't for this purpose but they have some nice paragraphs on evidence that are pretty generic.

--------LETTER 1---------------------------

The recent election lacked many of the basic security measures that
will go into effect later. Before moving on we need to make sure that
the results of the election, specifically the presidential race, are
legitimate. I'm sure that you heard about the voting machine in Ohio
that gave President Bush more votes than registered voters in the
area. How did this happen? Was it just an everyday computer glitch?
After reading the opinions of people with more knowledge of workings
of computers than myself I have come to understand that most
"glitches" result in unrecognizable data errors, not extra votes. Why
didn't this accident occur in other machines? Was this particular
machine running slightly different software? And if so, why? Perhaps
other machines made other equally unacceptable but less noticeable
"mistakes."

Or what about the alleged FBI/Homeland Security warning to Warren
County, Ohio that resulted in a lockdown during the counting of the
vote. The County officials claim to have received a warning that their
elections were in great danger. They decided to count the votes away
from the eyes of journalists and other observers. Later the FBI and
Department of Homeland Security denied having given such a severe
warning. Has this been resolved? Did someone pose as a federal
security official to keep the vote counting out of the public eye?
Perhaps technicians worked on voting machines during and after the
election to "fix" them. As far as I know the technicians aren't
required to swear oaths as the public election officials do. We
shouldn't hand control of our elections to privately employed
technicians.

These issues and many others need to be investigated and resolved. We
need to know that our elections are safe. I ask you to join with the
members of the House of Representatives that have asked the GAO to
investigate the election. If significant investigation does not occur
before the reading of the electoral votes in congress, I ask you to do
everything in your power to contest the results of the election until
the credibility of the election is returned.
Sincerely,

YOUR NAME

I urge you to investigate voting in the recent election and voting in
general. The shift to electronic voting is this country is putting our
elections at risk. Have you any idea of the insecurity of the voting
technology or the dishonesty of the companies manufacturing and
selling it? You may think this is crazy because it hasn't been the
hottest topic on network television, but so many questionable things
have occured with electronic voting that it would surprise me if vote
fraud did not occur in this year's election.

Now you might be asking "what questionable events is he referring to?"
Well, for a brief introduction to the mess that is electronic voting,
take a few minutes off from you busy schedule to read the explanations
at <http://www.chuckherrin.com/HackthevoteFAQ.htm >. If you would like
a computer scientist's view on the this issue you could listen to a
lecture by Professor David Dill of Stanford University at
<http://www.verifiedvoting.org/article.php?id=1593 >. Or you could read
a report written by Professor Avi Rubin of Johns Hopkins University.
He and a team of students analyzed the source code for the Diebold
tabulator software and found that is lacks basic, modern security
protections. His report can be found at
<http://avirubin.com/vote/analysis/index.html >.

The companies that make electronic voting will of course defend their
products. They will most likely use analogies to explain how secure
their software is and it will seem that all is well. The problem is
that their analogies are flawed, or their explanations are deviously
incomplete and average people, including election officials, who don't
understand all the complexities of computers, are left ignorantly
content. Something must be done to preserve future elections, and to
investigate the recent election. Please take the time to read the
material I have suggested. Without clean and honest elections
Democracy is a fraud.
Sincerely,

YOUR NAME

For the last few weeks I have been keeping a close eye on problems experienced during the recent election, specifically relating to the presidential race. The many things I have seen have led to me to believe that it is vital this election be investigated more closely.

Bev Harris, a resident of Washington State, claims to have found evidence of unacceptable election practices in Florida and has found election officials unwilling to share documents that should be public. Her experiences, if you are unfamiliar with them, have been documented on her website blackboxvoting.org. Mrs. Harris also discovered that some of the federal certification of voting software was contracted to companies that wrote "not applicable" in the results for a security test. Finally, Mrs. Harris' book, "Black Box Voting" documents electronic voting machine companies using deception and the average election official's ignorance of computer systems to distribute uncertified and unauditable election equipment.

Residents of Franklin County, Ohio were able to give testimony under oath of their experiences with vote suppression and other irregularities. Some of the testimonies have been recorded at http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19/2004/91...

Dr. Aviel Rubin, a Johns Hopkins University Professor and a team of students analyzed program source code from a Diebold Electronic Voting Machine and found it grossly lacking in fundamental security. His team's report, a Diebold response, and the team's rebuttal can be found at http://avirubin.com/vote/analysis/index.html

Regardless of whether fraud occurred or is found, I believe this election needs extensive investigation. It is my understanding that an election can be contested in congress by a combination of one senator and one representative. I ask you to look into this matter to discover the truth, and then, if significant investigation has not been accomplished, contest the election.

Please seek for opinions and evidence from all sides and do not be deceived by calculated explanations from those with an interest in suppressing vote investigation.
With Utmost Sincerity,

The other thread started with the post below, and evolved into contacting JC Repubs - your proposal is more "meaty", so I hope posters will consolidate here:

Call Blackwell (Toll Free), Ask Him to Answer Conyer's Letter....

At the very least, we should expect a public servant in Ohio like J. Kenneth Blackwell to answer mail from members of the Judiciary Committe of the US House of Representatives. He's shot his wad as expected by certifying Bush, so now he can deal with us.

  • The 'letter to' with the 'response from' is needed.

  • After a reasonable time has passed (according to time sensitivity of subject), 'no response' could be noted and forwarded with the letter.

  • Whether you get support or blown off, let Free Press expose it.
