My "Hokie" thoughts on the fiasco
For a while I really thought it was going to be a good night for us. I never got caught up in the landslide talk. I knew we were dealing with the evil Rove here and things would be coordinated to happen according to his script if it stayed within their reach.

Here are some facts we have to face:

The democrats will never win another election on a national level until we get rid of BBV and make other reforms.

The labor unions have been marginalized as a political force. They have only minor effect in a few special cases like Michigan. Do not be fooled into thinking this can be turned around. It cannot and unions will only grow weaker.

The new political force that drives and wins elections is the fundie churches. They are the perfect vehicle to win. They are tax exempt and have access to the whole family. They can continue to turn out good little fundie republicans year after year. They will use the "moral" issues to continue to get their base the polls where they can vote for republicans who really care nothing about Christianity but will talk the talk.

They own the media. We should have seen it coming but we just woke up one day and there was poor Dan Rather standing all by himself out there being horsewhipped naked and laughed at by the repubes.

What can we do? I honestly do not know if much can be done. I can state the obvious things like fight for verified voting and trying to keep the media honest by calling and emailing them. We can support progressive talk everywhere. We need to not support churches and charitable organizations with a political agenda and this includes the Boy Scouts and the Salvation Army. Tell them why you no longer give.

That's it. I feel so badly for America and my children today. It is sure hard to believe that mankind is a noble species on days like today.

3. Here yuo go
OK, OK we know they stole it.

We also know that this is next to impossible to prove

Now first let me say this, I no longer trust the voting system in the United States...

That said....

Here are the things that need to go to the top of our agenda:

1. Work as hard as we can to get rid of ANY and ALL electronic machines, we need pen and paper, old fashioned yes, can boxes be stuffed? Yes, but at least it would be easier to actually prove.

2. Change the message, STOP THE BLAME GAME RIGHT NOW, it does not matter whether we ran Dennis Kucinich or Attilla the Hun, the fix was in, and we all know it. But still we need to change the message, and RECRUIT the religious LEFT ... activism on that side is almost dead.

3. We need to get the House back in 2006... I know, I know gerrymandering and all that will make it close to impossible

4.- This will make us getting the vote out harder in years to come ... you know why, I know why ... none of us trusts the fucking system any longer ... now this also takes legitimacy away from this Presidency and the system

5.- Time for all of us to adopt the 11th commandment, though shall not talk evil of your fellow Democrats, Progresives et al.

6. Party discipline, yep I know we hate the single mindlessly of the Republicans, but they have party discipline. We need it

7. They want us to drop the towel and go home. We do that, THEY WIN ... are you willing to let them win? IF you do, please stop reading now.

8. Thank the party for doing the best they could ... remember they cannot challenge this ... NO RECORD.

9. Extend a hand to MODERATE Republicans, they are as outraged as we are. They won't say it, but they are. We may all hate Bushannan, but he is a good example of this kind of Republican, the pale conservative that hates what the Fundies have done, as well as the Neo Cons ... we may have to work with them to retake the country.

10. Stop wasting your time with the funds and freezers, they will NOT get it ... at least not until they suffer the consequences of what they have unleashed.

11. We know that sooner or late terror will touch these shores again, We know that, when it happens AVOID saying "we deserved it," Look whether you believe that or not, that is the worst you can all say.

12. And this is to the freepers. You made your own bed on your so called morals ... what this is about to unleash in this country WILL TOUCH YOU TOO. I surely hope this wakes you up.... but don't expect me to cry for you ... or even care what happens to you. You did this to yourself culture warrior, don't expect a helping hand from me. I am done caring for yuo, and I know you'd rather see me dead.

4. Get rid of the damned machines
The good news is that's done on the state level. You don't have to fight effing Karl Rove to get your state to dump those machines.

I'm going to start working on that tomorrow.

6. Getting rid of the vote counters
Talked to ten people today about never voting on those damned things again.

It is actually a very local thing - which way to count - so spend some face time in the halls near your elections office armed with the facts and be yee full of vigor.

Talk to everyone who even looks like they may be interested.

My compromise is a paper ballot scanned by a machine programmed by locals appointed by locally elected officials. I tell them: anybody can read paper but only some guy in Indiana can read the machine.

Made me feel better about the whole damn mess.

7. Isn't that the truth.
<< That's it. I feel so badly for America and my children today. It is sure hard to believe that mankind is a noble species on days like today. >>

I'm back to working on a way to relocate to Europe. I want my 14-year-old daughter (who busted her ASS for Kerry this year) to understand what democracy is REALLY about.
