Do you realize that we are the majority? --and that the protesters...
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 07:04 AM by Peace Patriot
...in DC today in fact represent the majority of Americans? Do you really realize it?

George Bush's approval rating among Americans stands now at a dismal 39%. This means that something close to 60% of Americans DISAPPROVE of him. And close to 60% also disapprove of his war. The DC protesters therefore are the representatives of the majority of Americans!

This thought occurred to me as I was writing sample letters to be blasted to the media today regarding their coverage of the protests.

If 60% disapprove of Bush and of his war, is it not likely that 60%--a big majority--also disapprove of his lapdog news media?

I'm using these points in the sample letters (shortly to be posted). I just thought I'd share this beautiful thought, for any who might be feeling bad today.

We ARE the majority--a big majority--and very possibly the majority by which Kerry won!

Do not indulge in despair, thinking that your country has gone insane. It is not insane. It has merely been disenfranchised.

And disenfranchisement is something we can fix.

1. Where did you see his approval ratings at 39 percent?
The last thing I saw had him at 52 percent, and that was on Keith Olbermann's show.

Now, KO did report that 56 percent of Americans think the war in Iraq was a bad idea, but that wasn't an approval rating on Shrub.

Just wondering - but I agree with your basic premise. I think all those minority citizens who didn't get a chance to vote would have proven you correct in that those who dislike the Shrub are the majority (oh, yeah, and those Republican-owned machines helped, too).

...and it's ranging around 50% with an MOE of about 3%. I got mixed up on the numbers (saw an LA Times story about 39% and misread it as approval rating, but it was a new low in approval of the war.) I'll see if I can change it. (Nope, can't change it. But you did save me from a big mistake in the sample letters I just posted as another forum, for people to use today on the media--THANKS!)

It still means that the protesters in DC represent a majority of Americans--a big majority--in disapproval of Bush's major project, the Iraq war.

Though his approval rating has crept up a few points, it's still very low for newly "elected" president about to be inaugurated, and I tend to think that some who answered (the ones who bumped it up) are merely resigned to Bush, rather than approving. People often mistake resignation for approval, in themselves and in others.

2. I remember seeing a new AP poll last week that had him up
to 51 or 52 but the sample was small, and the increase from 49 was still in the MOE. Of course, this was hot breaking news :)
