He WORE THE TIE!

Special Thanks to Crispini and her source on DU for the Tivo shot!

29. You're welcome
I, too, am on dial up.
And, while I have the mega-processer from hell that can do amazing things and post at record-speed for dial up, yes, 372 post gets too long (with all our pics) to make much sense of.
I can only imagine what regular dial-uppers are going through!

32. Thanks! Actually it was worse. My computer kept freezing up
and I had to reboot again and again. I finally gave up altogether. Even at the beginning of threads, I can't possibly keep up with the flow of the exchange.

Since I don't have cable, the KOEB thread is the only way I can "watch" Keith's "this is what journalism is, you corporate media hacks" show.

I do think we should adopt "To the Ties That Bind" as the official KOEB toast. It's only fitting that we have an offical toast before we have a mission statement!

7. He is showing his appreciation for our support
He can't give us any free kudos on his show -- the freepers would immediately scream about bias and O'Liely and Tweety would want their own ties. It's a sweet moment of solidarity and it feels damn good. It's also a damn fine tie!

Those of you immediately involved in the purchase of The Tie deserve a heavy load of FH's. I think we need to come up with exponential expressions for them to adequately express the magnitude of our feelings without slowing down the thread. So how about:

From your fellow KOEBers:
:loveya: x 10E3

And, using the pun someone came up with in the other thread - you can now really tie one on in celebration!

Toast: To the ties that bind!!

24. Hi Bettyellen - I believe you said something about 2 more fraudfighters
in the other thread, if I am remembering correctly and haven't mistaken you for another KOEB member. If I am, congratulations and huge thanks from all of us! That is indeed a valid excuse for arriving late at the KOEB thread!

And oh yeah, the KOEB was pretty fierce tonight. I think we're going to need UL and Sparky's designated driving for a while all right! I think this one ranked on the rowdiness meter up there with the pool shot thread and the catfight thread in the rapidly evolving historical traditions of the KOEB.

Best to you all! And yes, at least a million FH's to "the ties that bind"! It's the heart of our hope in this fight.

Here's her reply to my question on that thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=312803&mesg_id=313208
The key part:
"It was just something along the lines of: Happy Birthday from your fans at DU -- it's better than a tin foil hat! :-) (Snark by Clark2008)."

There was no mention of the KOEB by name, but there are good reasons to believe he reads at least some of these threads.

26. Bernie, how do the locations of these corrupted vote tallies
match up with the statistical analyses of Steven Freeman and the other expert statisticians? After further study, they now say that Mitkovsky was dead wrong and that the statistical anomalies in the exit polls are likely to have reflected corrupted vote tallying. Only sites with nonverifiable voting were affected. It would be most interesting to know how the physical evidence you are gathering matches up with the statistical studies.

Here's a DU thread linking to the latest report (I'm sure you already have it), signed by Freeman and other statisticians and calling for investigation of the 2004 election is here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x311138

Steven Freeman's web site page containing links to PDF files of his presidential election work is here:

40. Ah, Crispini...
I'm remembering a party in college where we were doing tequila shooters. It was the night before a big football game, but I went home around midnight, having no desire to worship the porcelain god in the morning. My roommates stumbled in around four, but when we got up in the morning to grab the bus to go to the game, they weren't hung over as I'd expected, they were still drunk. I can't imagine why that little vignette should come to mind just now... }(

50. yeah, well, we wrote a longer snark that would have fit
well with an earlier tie selection and that went in the dustbin, too, but it was fun to write and worth a giggle on Inauguration Day. We'll keep the mug idea on the back burner. Or maybe we could give Monica a heads up on the mug for a quiz present?? It's a great mug for him to have, even if we're not the ones doing the giving.

~~ Consider: The more gifts you send him, the less significance each one has. That tie means a LOT to him, I'm sure of it. He understood. The KOEB love arrow found its mark.
::sigh::

86. Since when?
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 03:32 PM by gkhouston
I was under the impression that his 2004 ratings had increased quite a bit over his 2003 ratings... an increase of over 100%??

I don't know anything about tvnewser.com... do they have a bias? I did run across one "ratings" website one day that was clearly nothing more than SpinFest for FauxNews; perhaps this was it?

Given what CBS is talking about doing to liven up their evening news broadcast, they could do a hell of a lot worse that to snatch up KO. But I'm afraid KO wouldn't have as much freedom on CBS as he does on MSNBC. Every time I catch part of one of the other shows on MSNBC, I wonder what in the hell KO's doing on that network; in one pen, the prize-winning bull, in the adjacent pens, the five-headed cows... :eyes:

98. His ratings for January were just a bit lower
But not a lot.

It was up in the 300,000s in December and down to 282,000 in November, but he wasn't there the end of December and the end of January. Hard to determine.

What sickens me, of course, is how high Faux News shows are rated. I guess that's the only thing Freepers and those who want to be mislead watch.

100. Well one irritating thing about MY cable company
is how damn hard MSNBC is to find.

The cable in my house is so old I still get A and B channels. I have to physically get up and switch from A to B cable. Then, MSNBC is alllllll the way at the end of the B channels... and AFTER two EMPTY channels of static! I had to really hunt to find it. (It's on channel 42, hee hee hee hee hee.)

Fox, on the other hand? Really easy to find, A channel, right up front.

102. I would never have found "Countdown" if it weren't for DU
Given what the other shows on MSNBC are like, I'd written the network off as a wasted channel. With shows like "Scarborough Country" (alternate universe is more like it), I pretty much thought of MSNBC as yet another right-wing propaganda channel. And then the folks here in ERD started talking about Keith, so I watched the show and it just about blew my head off. Instead of the dumbed-down spin-ridden pablum we see almost everywhere else, here's somebody who's actually trying to bring us real news and he's got a boatload of integrity and is funny as hell on top of it. Definitely the best thing that happened to me in Nov 2004 was finding Countdown; my husband and I are addicted. We tape it so we can watch it after my daughter goes to bed.

I often wonder how many people might appreciate Keith's show but would never think of finding something of that quality or open-mindedness on MSNBC.

110. Used to be ...
... we tuned into Chris Mouthews on account of the guests; and since Hardball leads straight into Countdown without a commercial break, we were suddenly there watching Countdown -- and then the inevitable happened: Chris began to look stupid and uncontrollable beside the more polite and penetrating Keith. The more we watched, the clearer the contrast became. That's how we got to be dedicated Keithniks.

124. But the good news is that he's got the highest ratings in key demos
than any of the other regularly scheduled MSNBC programs. The key demos are 18-49, 25-49, and 18-25 (if my very faulty memory serves). Anyway, advertisers buy off of demo ratings, not necessarily off of sheer ratings numbers (although those are certainly important too), but the better your numbers in those key demos, the more attractive the show is to advertisers and the more attractive it is to advertisers, the more $$$ earned for the network, and as we all know--it's all about the $$$$.

103. Maybe the mug is too much
Of course, it could have different contributors. And footnotes, lots of footnotes, explaining this is from a different set of fans, who did NOT contribute to the tie, therefore they do not technically qualify as repeat gift senders and should not be considered stalkers.

So, if we email the idea to the countdown email addy, does Keith read that one, do you think? Or is there a separate email for just Monica?

He has to be nervous getting boxes of any kind - the volume of hate mail he receives must be staggering. And that's in addition to the stalking issue.

We'll choose our rare occasions carefully and maybe we can come up with a good way to give him a headsup when something's coming.

49. Ladies... I've had a revelation about KO... bad news...
I think he's a (shh, don't wake the mods) disruptor. He didn't wear the tie because he's a thoughtful gentleman showing his appreciation. He wore the tie to unhinge our nightly frivolity and his cruel ploy worked!! Achilles had his Heel. Superman had Kryptonite. The KOEB has the Tie.

All he had to do was flaunt its silken threads and we were quickly overcome by its seductive stripey-ness. No searching questions were asked. No shrewd comparisons were made. No critical thinking skills were employed. He now has an ultimate weapon against us in his fiendish grasp.

We must be strong. Anytime we see the Tie, we must suppress our estrogen-induced inclinations to squeal and remember the First Question of ERD: What are they hiding? What is it that KO doesn't want us to be looking at or thinking about? Why are we being tormented with the handsome perfection of him wearing IT?

Seriously, I'm just going to sit here and smile quietly for the rest of the day and try to settle down some before tonight, 'cause if we're still acting like someone threw a concussion grenade into a chicken coop tonight, we're gonna have a pouty newscaster on our hands. :)

90. Hey! Any KOEBers that haven't voted KO as their favorite yet need to go to
this website and vote:

http://www.gogomag.com/ko3/

And I'm seriously wondering what happened here! We did this last week and I SWEAR we got KO up to a tie (giggle) with Anderson Cooper. Now the results show KO with only 3%? WTF???

92. We SO did this last week.
The person running the survey must be an Anderson Cooper partisan.

123. I was living in Texas the first time he ran for governor so I figure
he's had ample opportunity over the years to lie to me. I don't intend to watch. Probably won't get to see Countdown during the first airing but might drop by later. I've often wondered how many of us drop by to read the thread after the first airing and leave without adding anything, in the mistaken belief that no one else will come along and read the thread.
