Help. "Death Squads" Negroponte is tapped to be intel czar
Guys, I posted this in GD politics but no one seems to get it. I called Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer. They are getting NO CALLS on this.

This guy organized the mass murder of thousands of people in Central America during the Gipper admin.

See for yourselves: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Negroponte

So, he's a repression master and now, he's nominated to oversee our domestic intel? Does that sound good to you?

to do.

This man has no respect for human life, for the rule of law.

I can't believe this is happening. Silly me.

Please help me keep kicked.

Bless your hearts,
Beth

On edit: My family immigrated from Central America. My mom's generation still remembers him and his evil work. Don't let it come home.

4. This is what "Geoge Paine" says in part over at warblogging.com
Negroponte oversaw the killing and torture of hundreds, maybe thousands, of Hondurans and some Americans. He funded a guerilla group -- a terrorist group to some -- in direct and specific violation of American law. He lied to Congress to cover up his crimes.

6. I second that emotion. And please try to ring up your networks
For some reason, just because the thousands of the dead were little brown people, no one is understanding IT'S COMING HOME.

Okay, I better go take a walk.

7. "Fun and games" from the 80's coming home!
With Negroponte the position of "this is what the president wants" is NOT acceptable (speaking of Dem Senators). If his "selection" isn't put down then what is the USA saying to itself?

I want the US Attorney General to torture me and his man Negroponte is just the guy to get it done! WTF?

Sure, the stench from bush and the neoCons outrageous activities is getting stronger every day. Yes, they're getting ever closer to their inevitable demise. But at some juncture people just have to say no and stand on that.

No one on this world can / is going to help us but ourselves. And Negroponte is an EXCELLENT place to start!

8. The thing that is most upsetting to me is, we think that
out of control segments of our government can go all over the world and kill people if they're in our way.

Which is horrible enough.

But, what happens when those same guys come home AND are put in jobs that require their special skills?

Please kick.

9. They want a police state
I am freaking about everything these guys do. Chertoff, Gonzalez....if you believe in torture and if you dislike the bill of rights, then you're the right man for the job in this fascist police state.

My frustration is that the people around me...the people I work with...if you bring up anything about how we no longer have a working constitution or that we're heading into another, even costlier war....or the falling dollar...or the emerging police state....

NO ONE CARES OR GETS IT!!

Its all tied together.

They are grabbing for power from everywhere...domesitcally (by killing the constitution) and internationally (the wars and the devaluation of the dollar). The are intentionally bankrupting our government to kill every program and safety net....and intentionally shipping jobs over seas via 'free trade'.....this is a way to gain power (to make the country poor).

Maybe I'm losing my mind. Everytime I bring up anything that's going on, people look at me like I'm crazy. But, I feel like I've put the pieces together, and they form one SCARY picture.

10. Reality check
Gonzales found a way to make torture legal.

Condi found a way to make 9/11 inevitable.

This list is really long.

Rod Paige, the education guy, called the teachers' union a terrorist organization.

You're not crazy. This is happening. Let's keep our heads and speak up.

13. really simple question here
Who says we need a DNI ?

This is the question that the Democrats need to be asked in D.C. right now!

If it's the same people that got us into the present situation (Iraq, Afghanistan) than why are they listening and funding it with our dollars??

If we've got a DNI then why do we need the FBI or BATF??

This is really simple stuff but people want to go for the hard fvcking answer and skip what's right in front of their face.

14. Agree. Whatabout we create a new job so no one is held responsible
for 9/11?

But, look, we need to call them on this appointment, for real. This guy fits right in and ups their rep some. He's a very skilled scofflaw.

Who can you call or email?

15. I'd say start with Boxer!
And we need to ask her:

Who says we need a DNI ? Bush? Condi? Haven't they proven multiple times to not be trustworthy or reliable in their assertions?

Isn't this KGB II, US style?

We don't want or need this and the Democrats need to end this now!

Noam Chomsky on John Negroponte's Career From the Death Squads of Honduras to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

John Negroponte was sworn in as the new U.S. ambassador to Iraq on Wednesday. We hear from MIT Professor Noam Chomsky on Negroponte's time in Honduras. As ambassador, he played a key role in US aid to the Contra death squads in Nicaragua and shoring up the brutal military dictatorship of General Gustavo Alvarez Martínez in Honduras.

18. About a week ago, Castro was reported as saying that Hugo Chavez's...
...life was in danger, that the Bush Cartel has put an contract out on him, or something to that effect. I'd say that will be Negroponte's first stop. (Venezuela = 15% of US oil.)

Chavez has been elected President of Venezuela three times, by big margins--the last time a Recall, funded by the Bush Cartel, an election that was monitoried and verified by hundreds of international voting groups. Prior to that Recall, the Bush Cartel (using operatives in the military) tried to kidnap and assassinate him, but Venezuela's poor filled the streets and stopped the coup. Chavez seems merely to want some of Venezuela's oil profits to trickle down to the masses of very poor Venezuelans. He is not any flaming radical. These folks have been magnificent democrats with a small d, and citizens. They banged drums and tooted horns through their neighborhoods early on the morning of the Recall election to arouse people to go and vote. A hit on Chavez would be a devastating blow to democracy in South America, and a terrible, terrible deed.

We really have to face up to the combination of Democratic powerlessness in Congress, and the complicity of some Democrats. Nine Democrats prevented a filibuster in the Senate on Alberto Gonzales, 6 by voting FOR him, 3 by not bothering to show up to vote. They made the difference for Bush's favorite torture lawyer. They are:

VOTED FOR GONZALES

MARY LANDRIEU-LA
KEN SALAZAR-CO
MARK PRYOR-AR
BILL NELSON-FLA
JOSEPH LIEBERMAN-CT
BEN NELSON-NE

DIDN'T SHOW UP TO VOTE

Max Baucus of MT
Kent Conrad of MD
Daniel Inouye of HI

-----

On the positive side, all other Dems voted against Gonzales, and some of the best speakers were:

Kennedy
Byrd
Dayton
Cantwell
Mikulski
Feinstein
Jack Reed
Leahy
Bingaman
Tim Johnson
Schumer
Dodd (father was lawyer at Nuremberg)
Levin
Stabenow

---

Boxer led the fight on Condoleeza Rice, but wasn't active on the Gonzales fight (though of course she voted against Gonzales). Probably just a matter of timing and dibbying up responsibilities. She most certainly should be contacted and asked to lead on Negroponte.
