King briefed on new e-voting system

Manama, June. 26, (BNA) His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, received today Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Head of the Central Informatics Organization (CIO), Shaikh Ahmed bin Attiyatallah Al Khalifa, who presented to HM the King the documentation book and group of electronic voting programmes translated into international languages
which is the first of its kind in the world as the election process is documented with all the systems and techniques utilized in a comprehensive manner. HM the King was also briefed on the electronic voting system which has been developed to use the new smart card and also utilizes electronic signature to affirm the identity of the person which is an international standard of identifying a person when undertaking any activity costing millions of dollars and even when solving disputes. HM the King hailed this electronic publication, highlighting the good efforts exerted by the employees at the CIO with regards to this modern and advanced techniques. He also expressed his best wishes for the employees working on the electronic voting systems success in undertaking their national duties. HM the King expressed his pride on the abilities of Bahraini citizens in coping with the latest technological advancement in various fields.
Present at the meeting was the Minister of the Royal Court, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Following the meeting, Shaikh Ahmed expressed his honour for meeting HM the King and briefing him on the use of the most advanced electronic voting systems. The CIO had undertaken the documentation of all systems and techniques utilized which includes locating voting centres and making sure of voters' registration, in addition to candidates' registrations, he explained. Moreover, Shaikh Ahmed emphasized that the programmes were written in a way that other countries can make use of and making any changes according to their own requirements.
These programmes were reviewed by experts from Microsoft in Europe and the US to ensure that they followed quality standards in writing their applications.....http://english.bna.bh/?ID=46682
