BEAUFORT - When Carteret County submits its report next week to the state elections board, the document will include test results from the county's now-notorious electronic voting system.

State Board of Elections Executive Director Gary Bartlett and three of his staff members simulated an election at the Carteret County elections office Tuesday and watched to see exactly how the electronic equipment reacted.

The state board is gathering all the information it can before a Nov. 23 meeting to discuss Carteret County's Election Day problems in which 4,438 ballots were lost.

"We want to present all the facts that we possibly can as it relates to this issue," Bartlett said.

Only 3,005 of the electronic ballots cast during the early voting period were properly tallied. County officials have said they were misinformed about the system's storage capacity. They believed it could hold up to 10,500 ballots when, if in fact, 3,005 was the limit.

2. Umm, just exactly who "misinformed" them? Is it in writing somewhere?

"County officials have said they were misinformed about the system's storage capacity."

Any other county officials across the United States "misinformed"???

I wonder if this info has been sent to http://www.votersunite.org

Edit: Please include State location in posts. It's so hard to keep up with all the counties :)

I went to the home page of the link. This is in North Carolina.

4. The vendor of the voting machine
misinformed the county board. Apparently their software reviusion did allow storage of 10,500 votes, but the machines in Carteret County had not had the software revision installed. That was on WRAL tv, anyway.

6. This storage excuse is so ridiculous
In this day and age, when anyone can buy a 100 gig hard drive for about $100 there is simply no excuse for this type of bs. This is right up there with the idiots who tell us it will take 5 years to get the technology to print out a ballot.

5. 4,438 votes lost...was the warning light on to
indicate election fraud. Or maybe the light was on to warn officials that votes were about to be deleted? Or maybe the warning light was on to distract the election workers while the computer ate the votes of 4,438 Americans. Get real! This is going on everywhere. How pathetic is our electoral process? VERY! This is not an American election this is an electronic circus.
