James Lee Burke Fans mark your calendars
He will be releasing a collection of short stories in June - JESUS OUT TO SEA

And in July his new book THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN will be released which deals with New Orleans after Katrina. No doubt Dave and Clete will have them a fine time on the Bayou.

2. They are filming a movie of one of his books here now
New Iberia is abuzz! Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman and Ned Beatty are here filming "In The Electric Mist With The Confederate Dead". They want to use my office in one of the scenes they will be shooting next month, so maybe I'll be able to see them up close! Plan a road trip BOSSHOG and come on over to catch some of the action! They said they will be filming 90% of the movie in New Iberia, and they will probably be here until late August.

3. Thanks very much for that info
I made a trip to New Iberia a couple of years ago just because of his books. I stayed at the motor hotel by Bayou Teche surrounded by all the Oak Trees. Very scenic. I might just have to do that. I've ready every thing James has written at least once and I have his books in a very safe place.

They are looking for actors to try out.

Tommy Lee Jones as Dave. Ned Beatty as Clete? That will be an awesome movie. Thanks very much for the info.

4. Ned Beatty as Clete?
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 06:23 PM by reichstag911
I can picture Goodman as Clete, but not Beatty. I, too, have all his books, most of them signed since I had the opportunity to meet Burke on a couple occasions. The character of Robicheaux may be getting a little stale, but the elegance of Burke's prose can't be denied.

5. FYI...
...just checking JLB's website, a plot detail I'd forgotten was that Clete wasn't in In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead. Naturally, they could alter it for the movie...

6. I've always pictured
A slightly taller danny devito as Clete. Or the big heavy set guy in the Godfather lugging a rifle up the stairs and shooting a bad guy in the eye as he lay on a massage table. While I am happy that they are making a movie of another of his books (I'd like a movie to be made about all his books) I bet it won't be near as good as the book. Robi-chocks will die when James does.

7. I'd always pictured Clete as being a scrawny fellow who looks older than
his years. Ned Beatty is too fleshy.

9. Oh, another Barbara Hambly fan!
I love that series, especially the way she uses the January family to create connections into all segments of society.
