Is anyone reading Kristin Gore's book??
It's called "Sammy's House" and it's basically about a Senate Staffer and her experiences in Washington. Do you think she is basing any of her characters on actual people? And if so... who?

1. no offense to ms gore
but i have no interest in books that are published simply because the person who "authored" the book (of course the person actually had a ghost to do the real work) has a famous last name thru no achievement of their own but simply by being born as child of that person or having married the person or having slept w. the person

publishers have limited schedules and the more space given to "child of," "spouse of," "fucker of" the less opportunities available for regular people who might just happen to have talent and something to say from the outside

our entire society is about celebrity and gossip about insiders, who needs more of it, it's pathetic

2. Actually, I just bought it because it looked like an interesting story.
I had no idea Kristin Gore was Al Gore's daughter until someone posted and article about her here the other day.

Regardless of her connection to her father, I feel she could get a book deal on her own merit. She has been a writer for shows like the Simpson's, Saturday Night Live, and Futurama for years and she has some actual talent.

they don't get deals on their own merit but thru connections because schedules/budgets are so tight

it just doesn't happen these days

this is why booklists are filled with authors who have famous last names or who have had to perform some outrageous stunt such as pretending to be a former drug addict/street whore in order to get attention

is this really the direction we want publishing to go?

apparently it is since this seems to be how most people are voting with their money

:-(

5. It's too bad Kristen Gore seems to be lumped in with the Paris Hiltons...
It was a pretty good book.

8. I read it last week.
Actually it was a fun read--a sort of combo of chick lit and political fiction. I thought the Vice-President, called RG in the story, definitely had a lot of traits in common with Al Gore. Other characters are harder to tell about; the fictional president ultimately resigned because of scandal, but he wasn't very much like Bill Clinton either in personality or in the content of the scandal.

I think Kristin may have written a previous novel about the same character working on Capitol Hill -- "Sammy's Hill"?

And although it may be true that her name and connections helped get the book published, if she's been writing for TV shows etc. she probably _did_ write it herself. Athletes, movie stars etc. are more likely to have their books ghostwritten than the daughters of famous politicians--in fact she probably wants to have some accomplishments of her own.

9. I guess I was wondering who the inspiration for the Slimey Dem Senator might be...
You know... the one her boyfriend works for? I suppose it's a compelation of many people, but for some reason I kept thinking Joe Biden.
