need some advice
its hanukkah and my birthday is at the end of the month. since im not like most kids, some of gifts are going to be books or a book store certificate. what should I get? I was thinking Imperial Hubris, Plan of Attack, maybe one of Lackoff's Moral Politics books. which ones do you recommend?

1. The Lakoff "Moral Politics" is a bit dry.
I'd go for "Don't Think of an Elephant" myself, it's quite practical, readable, and it has all of the relevant parts from Moral Politics. Unless you're really interested in the scholarly roots of Lakoff's work, which is in Moral Politics. "Elephant" is also our book club choice in this forum for Jan! :)

Haven't read the others so someone else will have to chip in their two cents....

3. Imperial Hubris
I'm reading it now and have so far found it quite compelling and a decent read.

5. Since you ask...
Here are some of my favorite from the past year or so. All are interesting, good reads although some most are a bit distressing.

1. Running on Empty - The bankrupting of the US

2. Perfectly Legal - How we're (the normal person) getting ripped off by the tax code

3. High & Mighty - Not for the SUV lover

4. 1912- Making of the President - fascinating look at the progressive movement and TR

5. Geography of Nowhere and Home from Nowhere - William Kunstler - Especially good for those of us who grew up in the middle of sprawl and have known all along that something is just not right about it

6. Against the Tide - Documents the folly of our coastal boom

I also read Day of Reckoning - Consequences of American Economic Policy Under Reagan - Benjamin Friedman - Picked it up from the B&N $1 table.
Everything you want to know about the weak dollar, trade deficit, budget deficit and the scam economics of the 1980s. Very pertinant to today...it's like deja vu all over again.

Some of these are on my bookshelf. I also make liberal use of the library system. I love to buy books but the library saves you a ton of money.
