Am I too late into the Gilliam and Kubrick discussion?
Just watched Dr. Strangelove and Twelve Monkeys in the last week. Strangelove is referenced by a character in Twelve Monkeys.

I loved both movies before, yet it was only today that I saw Terry Gilliam's Kubrick influence.

I would love to discuss the similarities in their movies and appreciate their contributions, and I know this discussion has probably taken place here several times before my arrival at this understanding.

And, I probably missed the discussion on Spike Lee's visionary movies, as well.

They all ROCK :headbang:

2. I think both directors have done some amazing movies,
but I never noticed a similarity. Maybe because I wasn't looking for it?

Kubrick was so versatile, it was hard to pin him down. For example, compare Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange. They were all vastly different films with different tones, styles, and feels. Gilliam has some variation, but most of his films have a kind of fantastic, slightly absurd feel to them.

Hey, it's a good excuse to re-watch some of these old movies again!

3. It wasn't until tonight comparing Brazil and Twelve Monkeys and then hearing
Plummer's character in Twelve Monkeys reference Dr. Strangelove that I saw their similarities.

Spike Lee has embraced the fatalistic view as well, certainly evident in "Inside Man", interestingly one of the actors in that movie is Christopher Plummer.

Did you know that Bruce Willis's character says, "I see dead people." in Twelve Monkeys?

4. I was thinking more of Hitchcock, really.
Who also gets a much larger reference. There's an actual clip from... Vertigo? Was that it?

It's right too. It gets better the mroe times you watch it.
