Billy Bob kills shows in Canada; tense interview
Billy Bob Thornton canceled his concert appearances because of the backlash from his CBC radio interview earlier that day.
Apparently Thornton gave the producers specific instructions not to mention his acting career during the interview. When the Interviewer introduced Thornton and his band the Boxmasters, it was mentioned in context that Thornton was a feature film actor. The rest of the interview stated nothing about his acting career. It was all about the band. Because BB was incensed by this he gave the interviewer a hard time, and answered his questions with "I don't know what you're talking about" replies. He was headlining for Willie Nelson. And when he was asked what he thought about Willie, he said that I never met the guy. Don't know anything about him. He also stated the Canada was like mashed potatos without the gravy. Basically being an ass.
He had a concert in Toronto that nite, and was booed at loudly. He said I want to just say something; He then called Ghomeshi (the interviewer) an A-hole. After that he canceled the rest of his shows. There have been over 1 million hits on u tube where the interview is playing. About 12 minutes long. Quite the s''t disturber, this guy.

It's especially important, now that the U.S. has credibility again with our good friends, the Canadians, for the first time in eight years, that some stupid ass actor not fuck it up.

6. Billy Bob Thornton.
He was the 'shit'.

Remember Indie Films? Didn't Billy Bob win an Oscar in 'the year of the indie film?'

The '90s. The decade of d'uh.

Kurt was a genius, Tarantino too.

Certainly Billy Bob. His tattoos were sublime.

How can we continue without them?

10. That was my first thought.
Off topic, I wonder if Joaquin is doing a "Spinal Tap" publicity stunt and really making a mockumentary soon about his rap album. Its hard to believe he is so far gone.

21. I know..I'm pretty bummed
about the way Joaquin Phoenix has been acting and not just on Letterman's show.

Whatever it is..I don't think it's a good idea.

12. Both Players Gave As Good As They Got In That Interview
Most musicians hate it when interviewers treat them like objects, as if they're talking trophies who will do and say anything you want. That's what Jian was doing right from the start. He didn't bother to disguise that he was reading the intro, and that he was bored with it.

Posting the clip on YouTube was an amateur's attempt at a publicity coup. Everyone who's anyone in radio already knew Billy Bob is a pain in the ass, now they - and many musicians - also know Jian is vindictive. That won't help him book guests in the future.

13. why shouldn't someone mention his acting career? did he think no one would "find out"?
I mean, isn't it sort of hard to hide something that might have been seen by millions of viewers?

I don't know anything about him or this situation, but he sounds like a real asshole.

14. He Wants to Be Taken Seriously As a Musician
And not be thought of as a part-time hobbyist.

Where it causes a problem is that his record label is booking him on pop/rock stations that would never even consider playing his record, because it's country. They and the radio stations want it both ways.

19. We've got that Warren Zevon tribute cd -
it's awfully good - except for one atrocity committed by this jerk. He cannot sing. He has no musical sense - it's all about ego. I always just forward through his bit.

23. Never happen; his musical career has always been a vanity project
I really enjoy his acting and screenwriting, but his musical output is just wretched. Totaly unimaginative. And he sings like an actor (you know what I mean)

24. I Think If You Asked
Most of radio would agree. But. They allow him to come in to promote his music solely because of his movie career. "Hey, it's Billy Bob, why not?" I know of a case where he was booked and only when he arrived was the DJ told not to mention his acting at all, so the CBC interview probably went like that, also.

Don't think his label people who make these bookings don't know this is happening. They do. I don't think BBT deserved this type of public humiliation; the people who agreed to have him come into their stations in spite of knowing his records aren't playable, and then agree to go on the air or tape under his goofy conditions, are boxed into a trap of their own making. Few people realize why the CBC interviewer gave as good as he got.

27. He called Jian Ghomeshi an asshole? Whoa.
Jian isn't the most famous host in Canada, but he's a good guy and super-cool. I listen to him every day.

Bye-bye, Billy Bob.
