But for anyone who happens to be, are you looking forward to "Ritual" by The Black Dahlia Murder or "The Black Crown" by Suicide Silence? I also picked up"Against the World" by Winds of Plague and I looooove it. Again, I don't know that many people would listen to this kind of extreme metal (deathcore, it's usually labeled as) but I was just curious, so I decided to throw it out there.

1. That stuff is actually nicer than much of the stuff I listen to.
I have some Suicide Silence, and that's on the soft end of the scale for me. ;)

Oddly enough, despite being into black metal and noise/power electronics, the thing about death/metalcore that bothers me is the vocals. To the average ear some of the stuff I like has way harsher vocals and I love them, but the metalcore vocal style really pulls me out of the music for some reason. I don't know why in light of the dozens of "worse" vocals I can listen to. The music itself is usually pretty damn good.

When it comes to death metal I prefer mine straight up, bands like Autopsy, Nile, and current fave The Monolith Deathcult.

Here's a taste of the extreme vocal stuff I like. Clearly this is crazier than the stuff that bothers me, so I can't figure out why I like it.

I also dig purely insane noise like Merbow and To Live and Shave In L.A., but I won't subject you to that stuff. :)

Always good to have another music fan on DU. :toast:

2. Oh wow
I could get into the second link that you posted. That's some good stuff. I dislike metalcore usually (if we're defining metalcore as, say, Bullet for my Valentine) with a few exceptions, but deathcore is probably one of my favorite genres. That and straight death metal. I like Nile, I haven't listened to much Autopsy, even though I want to. I like Cannibal Corpse too. All good bands. I got a pretty awesome preorder package for "The Black Crown", I can't wait. Should be intense!
