It's official: Gabrielle is out of the woods

Some of you may remember my post of a few weeks ago: gravely ill, 3 and a half-year-old niece, staph infection, life-threatening situation. I asked for prayers (from believers) and good vibes/wishes from non.

Well, she has improved enough to be downgraded to a ventilator. She has also had her medications slowly reduced. She has a long haul ahead; rehabilitation and recovery. They are also having some trouble keeping her calm; she is now cognizant enough to be aware of her surroundings. She was even able to gurgle some speech from the ventilator: her first words were "Take me Home, Daddy."

Thank you for the prayers, kind words and wishes. It reminded me that DU is more than just a political community. I also can't say enough about the medical community -- some amazing people and amazing skills.

9. Bless her heart...its so hard for the little ones

My daughter was hospitalized at 4 for pneumonia...very scary for both of us!!!

(Just a littletip...don't let her play with the hospital toys when she is feeling better. My daughter ended up witha nasty virus she got from the communal toys.)
