I've actually read several SF stories that used this idea of an "intelligence singularity" but I just read an article in the June issue of "Asimov's Science Fiction" that introcuded me to Mr Kurzweil and his ideas.

Maybe it's a bit of a strecth to fit this group, should I have posted in that SOUP group? I picked here because I spend more time here. ;)

I found this great article on some guy at Cal Tech that programed DNA to form a fractal.

Erik Winfree, an assistant professor of computer science at The California Institute of Technology, has showed that it is possible to coax short strands of artificial DNA to spontaneously assemble into a Sierpinski triangle.

"The ability is a step toward embedding programming instructions in chemical processes and shows that there is no theoretical barrier to using molecular self-assembly to carry out any kind of computing and nanoscale fabrication, according to Winfree.

Talk about a mind bomb! Amazing. The Kurzweil site looks interesting.
