Some of you may recall that I sing at the National Cathedral in DC, and yestereday being "Justice Sunday" and all, I was eager to see what the sermon would be (because if the nature of the Cathedral, it's always a mixed bag, since they truck preachers in from around the country). Happily, I was not disappointed....the speaker was Dr. George Regas of the Regas Institute in Pasadena (no website for the institute, but I googled Dr. Regas and was heartened by what I found - for example, he was a signatory on an open letter to Alberto Gonzales back in January

Anyway, the central message of his sermon was his belief that Christiantity is NOT the only way to God...revolutionary in and of itself, but it was the corollaries to his central message that were really exciting. He slammed the Fundies for hijacking Christianity, slammed Pope Benedict for asserting the superiority of Caholicism, and all but called for open revolution by Progressive Christians and people of good sense.
Money quote: "God, for me, is best defined by Christ, but not confined by Christ."
The full text of his sermon should be posted on the Cathedral website in a week or so, I'll post a link when it is. (In the meantime, feel free to go there and buy a copy of the Cathedral Choir's new CD, "America the Beautiful". Schlocky, but I have a solo on Track 10. Go! Buy! Capitalism is swell!
