Following atheist trend, Britons seek 'de-baptism'
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.ae71a038e9b3b47af4f0e9eac9598fd8.2b1&show_article=1

More than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded "certificates of de-baptism" from the Internet to renounce their Christian faith.

The initiative launched by a group called the National Secular Society (NSS) follows atheist campaigns here and elsewhere, including a London bus poster which triggered protests by proclaiming "There's probably no God."

"We now produce a certificate on parchment and we have sold 1,500 units at three pounds (4.35 dollars, 3.20 euros) a pop," said NSS president Terry Sanderson, 58.

John Hunt, a 58-year-old from London and one of the first to try to be "de-baptised," held that he was too young to make any decision when he was christened at five months old.

1. Interesting.
Of course since I no longer place any value in the magic baptism water, I never really was baptised in the first place except for the physical act of getting my head wet.

2. Fucking hell. Why am I always the late man to the "Sell stupid people stupid shit" bandwagon?
By the gods!! I never think of the stupid things first. Pet rocks, Obama coins, and now de-baptism certificates.

I have to get more creative.

6. Maybe I should get my church to sell "Certificates of non-membership" for 5 bucks a pop
as a fundraiser.

12. Or you could sell church membership bumper-stickers--those would surely bring in a small sum.

4. Well, I can't be sure, but it seems to me that anyone stupid enough
to pay money for a "de-baptism certificate" is too stupid to be an atheist. Shortly, they'll find another thing to believe in, I expect.

16. Which apparently also has little to no meaning to the church of England anymore either. Seems to
carry more meaning to the person looking to renounce it. But hey, if a person has a bone to pick and the bucks to spend.....

The certficate declares:
I ________ having been subjected to the Rite of Christian Baptism in infancy (before reaching an age of consent), hereby publicly revoke any implications of that Rite and renounce the Church that carried it out. In the name of human reason, I reject all its Creeds and all other such superstition in particular, the perfidious belief that any baby needs to be cleansed by Baptism of alleged ORIGINAL SIN, and the evil power of supposed demons. I wish to be excluded henceforth from enhanced claims of church membership numbers based on past baptismal statistics used, for example, for the purpose of securing legislative privilege.”
