A very bad week for $cientology...
Director Paul Haggis ("Crash," "Million Dollar Baby") quits the "church" after more than 30 years of membership.

Reason: the San Diego $cientology org help pass Proposition (H)8:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2009/10/-crash-director-paul-haggis-renounces-scientology-over-gay-rights.html

Also - During a Nightline interview, Co$ spokes-thing Tommy Davis ripped off his microphone and stormed off the set. (Davis is actress Anne Archer's son.)

Reason: host Martin Bishir asked him about Xenu and the volcanos:

“Martin, I am not going to discuss, the disgusting perversions of Scientology beliefs that can be found now commonly on the internet, and be put in the position of talking about things for ah, ah, ah, that, ah, talking about things that are so, fundamentally offensive, to Scientologists to discuss.”

Oh, and in even MORE bad news, the St. Petersburg (FL) TIMES just ran a 3-part series on abuses of the cult:

2. This is just my take, but I feel the Scientologists need to sit their confused
hindends down over a big bowl of cookies and milk and think things over.

4. There is some serious goofy afoot in the world's religious from time to
time, definitely.

I respect the pilgrim, the seeker, the doer of virtuous favor. But I can't stomach 5 minutes of most televangelists, snake-handlers, music-prohibitors, and so forth.

5. The difference is, we know who made up Scientology
There is no mystery to Scientology. Unlike other religious bullshit, it has no history lost to time. We know who made it up, and pretty much why he made it up. Which is why few of us can imagine why anyone otherwise intelligent person would sign on for this bullshit.

I "did" EST. But I don't revere Werner Erhard, nor do I imagine that EST is some magical "tech" that was gifted to the enlightened one. I see it for exactly what it is, and it isn't a religion.

8. My reply to a scientologist hawking the wares outside the Sac Org
"Sorry, I only read good science fiction."

Yep. Anything that comes out the fertile imagination of L Ron Hubbard should be eyed suspiciously for the crap it is.

9. Not only that
but we pretty much know all of their secret "doctrines", as much as they've tried to keep the depths of LRH's lunacy hidden from the non-paying public.

7. To the tune of Ballad of Jesse James
I'll make no apology
For scientology
To rid us of our engrams they'll be bound.
Of profits, not a smidgeon
They are tax-free, a religion
And they cure you if you only stick around.

Chorus:
We shall be clear
L. Ron will make us clear
We're hopin' and we're prayin' for the light.
L. Ron Hubbard pray for me
That my soul enlightened be
That's imprisoned in the engrammatic night.

Marijuana, meditation,
LSD and masturbation
Come and go and fade so quickly from the scene.
But dianetics is here to stay
And if you can afford to pay
Your dirty mind will soon be brainwashed clean.
Chorus:

Oh our hearts are so much brighter
And our wallets so much lighter
Our consciences and bank accounts are clear!
Stack the greenbacks in the cupboard
Of ol' Mother L. Ron Hubbard
He was just a struggling author yesteryear.
Chorus:
