LAKEWOOD — Police shut down a residents meeting at an age-restricted community off Lake Carasaljo when a “tumultuous elderly crowd” began feuding over religious use of the clubhouse in the secular 376-unit complex, according to authorities.

Four police officers and an ambulance were dispatched to the clubhouse of A County Place off South Lake Drive at 6:18 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 for crowd control, said Capt. Greg Meyer of the township police.

The residential meeting was called for Thursday night when it was learned the clubhouse would be used for a religious service for Yom Kippur, said Walter McCloskey, 81, a Board of Trustee member for the complex. This was not a meeting of the board but of concerned residents, he said.

“The meeting got out of hand with yelling and shouting. Verbiage was exchanged” between Jewish and non-Jewish residents, Meyer said.

1. The social atmosphere of my MIL's assisted living place
reminded me of junior high.

I'm not surprised to hear this got heated, especially when the new lock was put on the door.

3. We truly are in the thrall of the religiously insane
That's the fun thing about religion. You don't have to think or reason anything, just believe. Someone doesn't believe as you? They're EVIL! They're the ENEMY!
