The Death Penalty and Hell
The Death Penalty and Hell

Do some people who support the Death Penalty wish that people who have committed certain crimes be transported to Hell ASAP?

2. I think we might find a strong correlation between supporters of the DP &
believers in a fiery eternal Hell.

4. I don't believe in Hell, but don't really have a problem with the death
penalty per se.

3. I think so
They think that they are the only ones going to heaven and they treat everyone like shit because of it.

5. Maybe many DP Advocates believe that...
Life without possibilty of parole isn't enough of a punishment and that certain criminals need to be killed so that they will go to Hell for their just punishment?

6. Belief in an afterlife makes supporting DP easier
This isn't really thought out, but I know that as an atheist, this life is the only go around we have. No time to make up for mistakes, no time to get a reward that is due us yet nobody on earth realizes. This is it. If we kill someone, there is no chance that a wrong can be righted. Thinking that there is an afterlife doesn't cause as many problems when it comes to the DP.

I'm sure I'll take some shit for this, but I feel confident enough in this theory to defend it, so...

7. I agree. I've thought for years that belief in Heaven causes less concern
for the environment and tweaks peoples minds to be less concerned with earth. Atheism causes one to think earth bound. Seeing how we just got this one earth we best take care of it.

8. There is no hell

Death consigns one to non-existence. I am opposed to the death penalty, a long road to get to this point. I recall stating my support a decade ago, "What about Hitler, or Eichmann?" Nope, was the reply from my very liberal opponent. It took me a great deal of time to realize why he was so adamant that the death penalty was wrong.

There is no hell and no heaven, no holy ghost, no salvation and no final judgment. All that we have as human beings is contained in this brief period we call life. A humbling thought, so humbling that I cannot reason the taking of another human life, no matter what the offense.

Hell does exist, it has existed many times in our history, the Nazi concentration camps, the Russian gulags, the killing fields in Cambodia, and yes, but not quite the same scale of misery, Guantanamo, Iraq, the shadow prisons in Europe. Anyone care to disagree, go ahead and volunteer some time in one of these contemporary hells. Hell on earth is much worse than any fictional description.
