Nadal Withdraws From Wimbledon
http://straightsets.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/19/will-nadal-play-wimbledon/?hp

Rafael Nadal announced Friday that he would skip Wimbledon this year, citing tendinitis in his knees.

“I played underneath myself for the last few months,” he said at a news conference at the All England Club, only three days before the 2009 championships begin. Nadal was the top-seeded player.

“I could not play close to my best,” Nadal said, insisting he would work hard to “come back as soon as possible.”

Personally, I think he's emotionally burnt out at this point.

1. Apparently Baghdatis and Monfils also pulled out...two fairly big names...
...not #1, but still guys who get fairly far in Grand Slams.

2. Yup
Marcos Baghdatis has joined Gael Monfils on the Wimbledon withdrawal list.

Baghdatis could not play at Wimbledon because of a knee injury. He will be replaced in the draw by Karol Beck on line 119.

Monfils has withdrawn due to a wrist injury. He will be replaced by a lucky loser from qualifying.

Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske have withdrawn from the Wimbledon Doubles due to an injury to Waske. They have been replaced by David Martin and Jean-Claude Scherrer on line 14.

3. Isn't it weird how they re-seed with Nadal gone? Marint del Porto gets in his draw
, he was 5, number 13, I think is now in Martin's, and the 33rd seed moves up.

5. I think Roddick is the top seed in his half now
I wish he'd put all his skills together for one complete tournament.

7. Monfils has been having some knee problems too
IIRC. It's a shame because he's such a fun, if often frustrating, player to watch.

8. Bad news
I really enjoy watching Rafa play.

And now the UK press is going to be hyping Andy Murray even more!

9. hard to imagine anything in this year's draw will match last year's final
I watched a good chunk of it again when they replayed it after the French Open final two weeks ago. Still beautiful.
